Absolutely, I’ve still not gotten over the model D app, it’s amazing. Some of the iOS synths are really good
The Shruthi is on my list …but yeah the lack of knobs I found to be a downside.
It’s not for everyone but at the same time you have features like a mod matrix with 12 patch points… Can get really interesting
There’s actually a version with more knobs ( XT) but they’re not that easy to find and more expensive
Model D app gets you there promised. Make some use of the the “external input volume” knob to add some growl/drive.
I’m sure it’s also possible with the microKorg. No need to buy extra hardware for that purpose imo
Ì‘d love to hear a patch that sounds like what I want to achieve from the DN. With the microKorg it‘s easy for me to get at least near it …not so much with the DN so far.
Now this is good news, isn’t it?
I have an SH-101 and Model D and they both pale in comparison to u-he Repro-1 for super deep bass.
All basses on examples you gave not so hard to get even from A4…
talking of ‘external input volume’, that reminds me, sounds like the was some moderately subtle side-chain compression where the bassline was ducking in volume in response to the bassdrum, in one of the examples.
might have been a form of “look-ahead” sidechain compression, if there is such a thing, as the bassline might have been ducking in volume slightly before the arrival of bassdrum events.
or it could have been a simple volume automation. or my imagination.
Back to the Digitone…i got some great results, when i used bass patches in 2 voice unison mode…try that first, before you buy something new.
often overlooked, but i really do like the Sound and it really can go Deep: Pioneer as-1
anybody Else tried it? what do you guys think?
I’m pretty sure they were all simply sidechain compressed to the kick
I don’t have a digitone yet, but usually fm is capable of kick ass bass. I can’t imagine the DN is an exception
I can make that exact bass sound with my moog minitaur. Minitaur is great for deep, growly, warm bass
I second the shruti for bass. Awesome synth.
This type of deep, rumbling, moving bass doesn’t necessarily come from having the analoguest synth as a sound source, but rather from extensive processing to make the bass sound fit and move well with the other elements in the mix. This involves creative use of compression, saturation and distortion, filtering, and EQ-ing.
Both examples also seem to make heavy use of side-chain compression aka “ducking” on the bass every time the kick hits, and/or these basslines have been programmed so that there are no bass notes when the kick triggers, which leaves room for the bass to breathe.
Here’s a decent example of a few of these techniques. Assuming you don’t want to work ITB, you could consider adding a compressor and something nice that saturates to your setup.
Any synth with a high pass filter can get some deep bass. Generally speaking, with a hpf, res all the way up and cutoff somewhat low. Have to find the sweet spot on each individual synth but its a recipe fo wall shaking, anus quivering bass. Not too useful most of the time but damn is it a great bass lol
for deep sub basses, any Synth with an OSC that offers Triangle and/or Sine wave forms, in the best case with filter unit capable of self oscillation. i have a cheap Roland Alpha Juno since a week and you can even get SH-101 style basses out of it. but the AJ don’t have a OSC with sine wave form btw. very nice synth
Yes I use the AS1 with my Digitakt and I got very very deep basses out of it. I love the AS1 sound.
Not a synth,… but a cheap bass guitar (+ a semi-expensive pedal or 2) can do wonders too. Edit and layer your audio so being a real bass player prodigy is far from necessary.
