or a Monotron.

If no one has mentioned it already Iād say the O-Coast or a Nord Drum 2 although the ND is more suited to drums (fancy that?).
second that.
Just wondering that the Waldorf Pulse 2 is not mentioned. This one got pressure and is most likely able to kill whatever you use to listen to your soundā¦ itās lovely, versatile and dangerous ;)ā¦ I got some really deep and powerful basses out of itā¦
It is still on my list, versatile apparently, but I also think about something like an O-Coast.
Yap, take the tools that get you the job done :)ā¦
I am just an advocate for this tank like build machineā¦
With full midi control, isnāt it ?
If you can even change paraphonic mode via midi, itās even more interesting.
Did not try that, but you can control nearly everything with cc. Paraphonic mode is a shape of OSC1 and locks out the other two OSCs. Suprisingly and according to the cc list in the manual you can change the shape of OSC 2 and 3 via cc but not of OSC 1ā¦ Maybe it is possible meanwhile with the firmware updatesā¦ just Mail their Support, they sonstiges need a bit to answer but they will 100% not forget to.
Just found this list, seems to be possible:

As a āreal bass playerā, I totally agree! Layering is fun. Iām in the process of sampling bass guitar into my OT, so I can fortunately/unfortunately leave it at home, when performing. Once in there, it becomes like a synth track to a great degree.,
Also, for deep lows, use a five string or (my preference) put the lowest and three highest strings of a 5 string set on a four string bsss and detune that a step. One could do so with a cheap instrument and get some primal sampled thud. A good bass pre and some chops helps too. Anyway, not a synth but s fun optionā¦
Edit: I am wondering about that Lilā Erebus kit. Howās the Erebus for bass?
People are not using a single Synth for this, they usually layer and EQ them. In modern contemporary Music at least. Nowadays its better to use Samples if you want to be inline. They will serve well!
If you dont wanna use Samples though: Make a bass heavy Sound with your DN on one Track, put the Filter at the right Spot (its around 32 on the Digitakt) and crank up the Resonance! Fine tune until you see fit. This will blow every Speaker if you do it right Now add the Top-End with another Sound on a second Track and mix & match both Sounds together until they melt into each other. This should get you close to what you want (if the DN is really that good like everybody says
)
Soundwise very good advice ā¦ but I would suggest to make use of the benefits of FM-synthesis at all.
Use at least two pairs of operators, create two sounds, which fit together well, if layered and there you go, without needing a second track
Maybe that the DN does not support this kind of use, but most standard ditital FM-synths do.
could maybe use a second track slightly out of phase with the first one, same sound ā¦ possibly just put a slight amount of chorus on there. then another track one or two octaves above with a fizz hash sound for the sizzle.
and then use parameter locks to achieve a dipping of the volume by one or two db each time the bassdrum sounds, on all three bass track parts. with a glide at the start of the parameter lock volume drop say one sixteenth before the bassdrum.
depends on your budget:
cheap software: check out the new trk01 plugin from native instruments
cheap analog acid with keyboard: korg monologue can get pretty agressive and has a nice sequencer.
deluxe analog bass: moog subsequent 37, with a hefty filteroverdrive.
make it big: buy a korg prologue 16, its bass in unison mode with 16 voices and 48 oscillators blows everything out
Yep 0-coast can do very deep and huge bass, start adding in a few overtones and some modulation and . The MFB Dominion Club is also very good for bass ā with 3 oscs (one digital with FM) + 2 subs things can get pretty huge.
I think the Analog Rytm MK2 will be a nice bass synth if Elektron gives us the update with the dual VCOs?
and maybe
Full acknowledgement. I wonāt buy any new synth for now. Rather focus on my hardware in the next year until I get know how synthesis and layering works.
get a Digitone pls.
Got oneā¦ But I find it very very hard to make nice bass lines. But I am open to hear your patches that sound like what I want to achieve!
Well I donāt have digitone but I want one really bad right now Iām using sega mega drive midi which sounds similar , can you give me an example of the bass your trying to achieve . Iām certain FM synthesis can achieve what your looking for !
