Heads up Changes to Ebay Payments Feb 2025

Just a heads up I received this email from Ebay yesterday

Your funds will be available for payout once we receive delivery confirmation

We are making changes to the way we process payments on eBay. Going forward, we’ll make your funds available for payout within 48 hours after we’ve confirmed delivery of the item. Until then, you’ll see a “hold” on your funds. This process helps keep our marketplace safe.

It’s in the new Payment Terms and Conditions starting 4th February 2025. For private sellers funds will not become available for payout until 48 hours after delivery confirmation. If there is no confirmation, i.e. untracked or just not updated, it is 14 days after presumed date of delivery.

That’s me I’m done no more ebay for me bye bye

Yep.

Way too much fucking around.

I was laughing this weekend. Totally forgot to bid on a bike for my lad, ended up unsold and relisted. So I messaged the seller and offered him £50 for it, and he accepted. But even though eBay weren’t making any money out of the transaction, the old message spies were all over us in minutes making sure we completed the sale through eBay, even though literally no-one benefitted.

It must cost money to keep that sort of shit up, which makes no sense why they’d bother chasing people for no money.

On the plus side, you get to keep all the money from the sale.

To me that makes eBay better than ever.

Started reading the t&c update but my eyes glazed over and realised it’s prolly easier just not to use them anymore.

But on the upside, got nothing left to sell anyway so maybe this will help me keep it that way.

Well is back to Craigslist and Reverb for sales. If there wasn’t a pending recession I’d say this would kill eBay.

There will certainly be a lot of unhappy sellers filing complaints. Not to mention all the overdraft fees buyers will get hit with from their banks when a transaction is randomly drawn a week later. They do need to cut down on the fraud, but 2 business days after delivery, not to mention bank process time is ridiculous!

This is constructing a massive impediment for users, everyone expects payment shipping and deposits nearly instantly not days/weeks later.

Stupidity!

What the crap!!

Won’t the buyer be paying straight away, and eBay holding the money 'til delivery + 2 days?

(I didn’t read the actual T&Cs so I could easily have got this wrong)

Seems like eBay is setting us all up for the greatest heist of all time.

The funds are going immediately to eBay, so eBay can collect interest in them.

I doubt on the backend that the additional 48h interest-generating “hold” will give any additional antitheft benefits.

Yep 24 hours after delivery then u get paid

I sold an item, posted next morning with tracking and they had it the following morning. Customer was happy and provided positive feedback.

They still held it for over 4 weeks. Said it’s because it’s a high amount, £1000. I had sold two items few weeks before at £600 and £400 with no hold.

Not getting my money until December 20th :frowning:

Just experienced this exact issue while selling a synth. eBay member since 2014 or 2015 ish with hundreds of transactions and perfect score feedback. Never using the site again.

When they went no fees I thought this is too good to be true and how are they supposed to make money now we know now

Holding on to the money as long as possible and getting the intrest from it

That’s the final nail in the coffin for me

Bye Bye Ebay

I never send the goods until I have the money in my bank account, so for me, in this scenario, I would be cancelling the sale and not using eBay again.

I thought the change didn’t happen until Feb 2025. Why are you guys being affected already?

They’re already started of doing it in a lot of cases.

If they can find an excuse to hold on to your money, they will and they do.

PayPal do it as well, they’ve fucked me a couple of times holding on to money due to “unusual activity”.
