How do you stay motivated?

Anyone here feel like they like the idea of making music more than actually making music? Sometimes when I’m away from music (whether during work, out and about etc) I feel very motivated. But then when the time comes and I have spare time, I find it hard to work on songs. Starting ideas is usually enjoyable and fun, but as I go on, i find it harder to finish and get distracted easily.

Totally feel this. But I don’t mind anymore. I do this for fun so it’s normal I leave the non fun parts out.

I just do everything live without pressure, rules and boxing-ins. I don’t press record anymore when playing with hardware.

 Maybe I do, for resampling purpose.

What motivates me is to play live, mainly for experimental theatre/dance projects.

A lot of the time I find that motivation takes care of itself as long as I get rid of bad habits. So stuff like: wasting too much time on net, watching too many gear videos or other Gear Acquisition Syndrome activities, comparing myself to others, etc… Even listening to too much new music, to where I become so aware of the vast sea of music out there right now to where I start to think “what’s the point of doing this?”… reduce things like that and the motivation increases naturally.

:100: I couldn’t agree more with this. We need to become a little bit bored sometimes to spark our creative impulses and get new ideas. Getting rid of social media (except for wasting too much time on this site haha ) has given me so much more time for making music every evening. Now I’ve made it a positive habit.

By enjoying it, make music for the love and fun of it without having set goals
