How the DT recognizes a sample?

Does the DT recognize a sample across different projects through the path or some kind of hash?

Let’s say I have a sample already in used in DT, I now want to apply an HPF. I want to do it on my laptop then replace the original with the new sample. Will all the projects be affected by it?

It uses a hash. I don’t think you can replace a sample as you describe

Can't save the same file twice?

The reason why is that each file gets a specific hash ID, this lets the machine find the exact sample file regardless of where it is in the file system. If you were able to load duplicates you could run into a situation where you do not know which file with the exact same content is loaded/used by your project. It is possible to have aliases in the file system, but I don’t know if it’s a possibility to solve that via Transfer, or if it even is such a good idea to allow for that in the first pla…

DANG! Reorganizing patterns and samples through projects and starting projects on the computer is exactly what I was suggesting in the feature requests thread. Thanks for pointing it out here again, I would have missed the other thread since it´s closed and I just came back after 3 weeks of vacation.
