How to mute tracks without killing the sample/FX tail?

I was wondering if there is a way to have a track (say a clap with a delay) and to be able to mute it/take it out of the mix without killing the last few delays or reverb (or the remainder of a longer sample for example).

One Shot trigs don’t seem to be ideal as one would have to constantly arm the track over and over until it’s ready to be taken out, and muting the track kills it instantly.

I’m sorry if this has been discussed, but I haven’t been able to find anything and the forum search has a slight bug at the moment.

I found this thread on Google which is a somewhat old on Gearslutz: http://www.gearslutz.com/board/electronic-music-instruments-electronic-music-production/736135-octatrack-mute-tracks-leave-fx-tail-possible.html

In which an incredibly tedious workaround is suggested, or also forcing the FX through a master T8, neither of which is all that ideal and I’m also wondering if something has changed since?

Does anyone have a solution for Pre-FX Mute or muting a sample so the cut isn’t quite so abrupt? I imagine this is a common thing that a lot of people have encountered?

There are options. A second pattern with less/no clap. Function-clearing the track. Dropping your Dec/Rel parameters to 0 or , Rate to 0, or even Start to 128. These all could be accomplished with a Scene or Part. Really depends on the performance workflow you’re running.

Fyi, I thought about this for maybe three minutes, there are probably more clever approaches. :astonished:

nice tips allerian! much thx

sometime i go with a Scene where the XVOL is set to MIN.
So when you whip the crossfader to that Scene the FXs still go decaying naturally but not the sample that has been volume lowered pre-fx (i.e. pre-TrkLevel)
