I was considering a Moog Grandmother but ended up with a Matriarch

Ohh yea a savings found has already been started for a prophet 5/6. :joy:

Cool. Haven’t thought of it that way.

Yes, this used to work really well with the old MS-20 I had. Lots of oomph there

It works on the current MS-20FS too

It actually happened within the warranty period, but I was stupidly busy and forgot about it. My dealer was cool, and so was Moog Music, so I sent it in. Haven’t gotten it back yet, but they said they’d work it out. I’m in Norway.

Yes. I traded my ms for an a4, and I didn’t look back for a long time, but then the need for an immediate mono came along. Thought about getting a MS-20FS, but the Moog just looked so sexy.

The latest YT post inspires me to make a Moog Matriarch vs. M8 Tracker video.

I like how he acknowledges how silly the idea was but he also knew people would watch.

You can never go wrong with a vs video. It taps into our inner warrior spirit.

On second thought, I’m changing the Matriarch’s opponent to OP-1. OP-1 is much more controversial and thus will attract even more views.

Then the winner will take on the M8. :joy: this is yt gold!

How you liking it? I’m looking hard at one too.

This thing sounds like it’s straight from the 70s. Super vintage and phat! The stereo delay is killer! So far I’m blown away and I haven’t even got to patching yet!

What really sold me on the matriarch (I was coming down to either the Pro 3 or matriarch for a high end mono) was the weird things you can do with that delay and patching it. I love doing feed back loops with the spring reverb on the Grandmother but also on the Matriarch. I haven’t gotten into it yet myself but also having the ability to expand with eurorack is really enticing. Down the road I plan to make a eurorack set up just to expand on my two old ladies.

I already have decent collection of eurorack. I totally expect the Matriarch to be the center of my eurorack system.

I was tempted by the Pro 3 too, since it has patch memory, but my buddy is talking me into getting a Wavestate in which I can load up to 4MB of Matriarch samples if I want. He’s getting one himself. This idea has obvious pros and cons vs. getting the Pro 3.

who doesn’t love drawing pictures to save patches? they even give you some pretty blank sheets to markup. I have used them a few times. but for better or worse - not having savable patches forces me to commit to the sound faster.

ā€œi better record this real quick, before i start tweaking knobs and lose it completelyā€

That’s the only way I work now even on synths that save patches. I can’t remember the last time I’ve saved a patch. I record as I go. :joy:

I have the Matriarch and I will say I absolutely love it. The sound is absolutely phenomenally Moogy!

The inverting attenuators expand the capabilities 10 fold. They are basically VCA’s that can go negative.

In this example:

The output of the filter envelope goes to a multiple.

The output of the multiple goes to both the input and CV control on the attenuverter.

The output of the attenuverter goes to another multiple which then controls the 2 filter frequencies.

By adjusting the attenuverter into the negative or positive you can control the envelope curve. Snappier or Bulbous, the choice is yours

The oscillators driving the mixer and/or filters gives super musical thick saturation.

The BBD delay is absolutely amazing sounding! Spacing control gives you tons of depth and reverb like qualities.

Paraphony can be really useful and unused oscillators can be modulators. The whole thing is just well thought out and is full of Moogy Vibes!

While some of these things happen with Grandma you can do all of those and more with the Matriarch (except spring reverb).

You can always buy a spring reverb if you really need one. The delay is more useful IMO.
