You can save one patch, the last one
I usually just take a photo of the panel to save the patch.
But recording of course is a must in case I get a sound I want to reuse.
This synth is absolutely magical. Iām in total La La land.
Iām getting these incredible arcade sounds when I sweep through the delay spacing knob.
Iāve had my Matriarch a little over a month now. So far Iāve only done two patches on it because I know once I remove them I wonāt get them back. But theyāre good enough that Iām building songs around them both. Iāve just been slow at making new music, and I donāt want to pull the patch apart and find that I needed a different bassline because the song was in the key of G after allā¦
That said the one time I have pulled the patch apart so far was cathartic and I got a few hours of fun starting from a new blank slate before I patched myself into a new corner. Based on the fact that Iāve run out of attenuverters in both patches so far, Iām going to say I would have either needed to add something to the GM (I was considering a behringer 2600) or I would have wanted to upgrade pretty quickly.
I have a make noise maths, 4ms peg xoas device batumi, an intellijel metropolis and an intellijel quad amp that I plan on using to supplement the Matriarch. This gives me an extra sequencer, more attenuverters, looping envelopes, extra LFOs, and extra vcaās. Thatās enough to keep me busy for a lifetime. Iām still less than 24 hrs into this and I couldnāt be happier. Not to mention the Matriarch sits nicely with the OB-6. My setup is oozing analog goodness rn.
The Matriarch is delivering more than I could ever dream of. Instantly my favorite synth!!!
Be sure to hit us up with some Matriarch in the Current Sounds thread. Glad youāre loving your new Moog!
For sure! Iām cooking up some beautiful generative jams. Iāll load something soon.
How can I upload an audio file from my google drive?
Does anyone prefer the Grandmother over the Matriarch? I loved the GM, so of course (!) I moved up to the bigger model, but I find I play it less. There was something so immediate about the GM, and I could dial in the sound I wanted really fast.
But it is also much deeper than you might think based on specs alone.
I sold the GM last week, but now Iām thinking of selling the Matriarch and getting another GM while I still can, with the prices going crazy.
Anyone else feel the same about the GM?
Jesus⦠$1250 for a new Grandmother at Sweetwater?
Anyways, I have them both. They are fun together. If I had to sell one it would definitely be the Grandmother. I know there are people that find the Grandmother to be more immediate but I disagree, I find them to be very much the same as far as immediacy and the Matriarch just has all the extra features that make it better. And the stereo-ness of the Matriarch is also just magical.
I always had trouble getting rid of the Grandmother though because itās just so beautiful to look at and play and itās nice to be able to kinda get Bi-Timbrality from using them both. They sound basically identical but I can get a bass sound on one and something else on the other. But yeah, of the two I like the matriarch much more.
I should also note I donāt have any eurorack, itās just my Grandmother and Matriarch and I have a Hapax and A4 for sequencing cv.
I never owned a GM but was thinking of pairing a GM with a Matriarch. I ended up with another Matriarch through a trade, now I have two Matriarchs. I absolutely love the Matriarch but I can definitely see the appeal of having a GM for the reasons you stated.
Iāve just got my Matriarch back after I loaned it to a YouTuber to use for content, 6 months ago⦠Iāve had a couple of days back with it and feel like the break did me great. I have a much better appreciation and understanding of it than I did. Itās just a joy to sit and make sounds.
Iām thinking it might be a good idea to grab another GM at the old price, and decide later
Or find somebody who might want to swap one for an OG-1.
I think, though, I probably wouldnāt want to give up on the polyphony, although I think I prefer the simpler filter setup of the Grandmother, and the separate high pass, which I used in a noise feedback loop for some nice fuzz-like distortion.
Itās an absolute joy to use. The Matriarch just inspires me to get on it and explore. The sounds is so massive.
Iāve had the GM for over 3 years now, and I have been tempted to uograde to a matriarch for a while now so Iāve been playing one in a store a couple of times. Every time I doubt wether the upgrade would make me happy for a couple of reasons:
- Not sure why but thereās something about the size of the matriarch which seems off to me, both machines have this kind of a quirky oldschool look and feel which to me work on the GM but feel out of proportion on the Matriarch, like itās too big to look the way it does.
- The Matriarch can do all the things the GM can do, but somehow I feel like the limited amount of things the GM can do make it a perfect monosynth. The matriarch makes me feel like Iām controlling a magnificent but kind of intimidating science lab, while the GM feels more like a focussed tool.
Now take all of this with a grain of salt because itās probably just because Iām so used to the GM and donāt know the matriarch well enough, but I though Iād chime in with a different perspective from all the Matriarch fans here . I might just be completely converted to the Matriarch camp if I ever get to spend more time with it.
This is how I feel about it. I really liked working around the āmissingā features on the GM. I always ended up with something interesting.
I also have trouble with the stereo filters and filter envelope. On the GM itās easy. On the Matriarch thereās a lot more power, but also way more moving parts to consider.
This is kind of funny, because you put into word exactly why I love the Matriach.
But that said, I still prefer my Minitaur for bass duties, and if I didnāt have that (and had the space), Iād be very tempted by the GM too, as it seems such a lovely and complete instrument.
