They look pretty ideal for me and what reviews I can see online are good – I don’t have space for floor speaker stands in my room, so currently my Event 2020 v3 are propped on top of some old speakers + books + foam pads on my desk, but it looks pretty tatty and one set of foam pads is coming to the end of its life, so I’m looking for something a bit more pro.
My speakers are on the larger side but are under the recommended weight limit for these, they are a few cm bigger than the mounting pad but I don’t think that should be a problem as people online talk about using them with HS8, which are about the same size.
The other option I’d been looking at were the Iso-Acoustics ISO-155 but these would free up more desk space under the speaker. I’m not expecting sonic miracles, as long as they perform as well as my existing foam pads that’s fine. Any feedback/thoughts/recommendations welcome… just replacing the dodgy foam pad is also an option but I’d really rather something a bit neater/freeing up some space.
The K&Ms are really solid, but you want some kind of isolation pad on top of them. The IsoAcoustics are great for isolation, but a little wobbly in the tall setting. My biggest complaint about both is that they’re not actually tall enough for my setup. There’s not a lot in the 30-50cm range.
I wonder if it’s hard to make desk mounted things stable at such heights? Could explain it. Ideally I’d just use floor mounted stands but that’ll have to wait til I live somewhere with more space.
Thanks for the input! Will have to measure up what height I need and think how useful the space under the K&H would be vs. the in-built isolation of the ISO stands.
Eh, it shouldn’t be hard. I’ve got a fabricator I’ve worked with on some stuff and I might have him make me a pair. I think it’s more supply and demand. Most desktop stands are made for folks sitting down at a desk, likely set up with a keyboard tray and a relatively high desk height, so that’s what’s made.
I work at a standing desk without a keyboard tray, so set relatively low, and need the monitors much higher. And floor stands don’t work because they won’t lower with the desk (it’s not always in standing mode) and because the whole assembly is on wheels and gets moved around a bit.
Yup, those are an option, and there’s another somewhat cheaper version for lighter monitors. I might get them if I get a pair of bigger monitors for the keyboard stand side, but they’re huge compared to the KRK v4s4s I use at my desk.
The K&M‘s can be a bit wobbly.
I highly recomend those made by Gravity Stands, a german company. You can tilt them, they are rock solid and you still have lots of space on your desk. Have 3 of them in my studio. One has my Digitakt on top
They look pretty good and are cheaper than the K&M… wonder what the maximum size they are good for is? In the past I emailed Gear4Music asking if their smaller desktop ones (Desktop Monitor Speaker Stands by Gear4music, Pair at Gear4music) were suitable for my Event 2020’s and they said they didn’t think so, but these look more robust - but no recommended weight limit that I can see
Another Q on these, are they ok with large speakers, specifically if larger than the mounting surface? The surface is 240 x 250 mm, my speakers are 220 x 300mm I think. Assuming the small overhang is fine.
Turns out my speakers are 17kg apparently (oops, had been looking at specs for the v1 which seems to be lighter) so that rules out the K&M according to the specs (maximum 15kg), but the Gravity says up to 25kg is okay. Just that the promo photos show them with small speakers that comfortably fit!
Yeah, you can use them with larger speakers. They feel very solid. I would give them a chance.
I do not use isolation pads. The have some pading, that holds your monitors firm and also do not let to much frequencies get trough your table.
And they have this adjustmant scale…amazing! You can precisly adjust both of your monitors.
Gravity has a lot of those “smarter” stands.
Cheers
Great, thank you for the input! As luck would have it, one of the shops in eBay’s current 15% off promo had them in stock so I just ordered a pair I’ll let you know how I get on. Thanks very much!
Wow these things are the real deal eh?! They feel so sturdy, really nice surprise. The adjustment mechanism is like a good camera tripod, really nice! They also look great with nice design details like the green rings. Thanks for the recommendation!
One thing, mine came with no instructions and I can’t work out how to adjust the height! Don’t suppose you know?
Yeah, they are the real deal! Apreciate it very much i could help
Height adjustment is actually pretty easy, just losen the big knob und pull them up.
On YT there is a japanese guy explaining it.
Oh yeah that was easy, I was pulling the wrong bit and over thinking it lol. Really pleased with these. They feel so solid and are so easy to adjust, plus look great and I think my speakers sound better (probably because I’ve been able to adjust the height and angle more easily). Thanks again for the recommendation!
