Kanye’s Donda Stem Player

The most innovative piece of electronic music hardware in a decade. Change my mind.

I think I’ve heard enough about Kanye’s Donda already, thanks.

The feature set of this device is very similar to the OP-1 tape section. You can play mutes, loop in a the same way on OP-1.

Doesn’t it separate songs on the fly instead of just loading it with stems though?

I’d argue that this device is more about software than hardware and could have easily been a phone app without the need for yet another dedicated physical product that will become landfill when part of the software/website it relies on goes offline. But you can’t sell a phone app for $200.

Ye’s Dondagotchi.

I’m not interested in anything Kanye
Yea … he used to make his own music which people like but he seems to rely on a million other producers in order to sound relevant these days. ( though this is also a symptom of modern hip hop / r&b and pop )

Someone else did this and he just bought into the idea of investing / marketing it.

Real-time stem creation ( if that’s what it does ) has been happening for a while … though I’m not keen to pay subscription on dj app to do it and never figured out how to get the libraries working on my Mac.

So basically - not the most innovative hardware in a decade. IMO

I’m glad you’re enjoying your purchase.

The thing doesn’t seem that innovative to me. It was basically made by TE- seems pulled from pieces of the OP-1

However, a musical product from TE, outside of thr POs, thats not ridiculously overpriced is kinda an impressive feat

I don‘t really get it tbh, like what market is it aimed at?

…oh, come on…there are quite some album releases in pop history, that were also offered in a mix and make it up ur own kind of version…it’s been part of pop culture since ages…

and as much i used to love to ask people the pop rethorical question…which kanye album are u…?

i must point out, that “donda” is the most dissapointing one…it feels and sits like a sneaker…
and that’s way more what he’s up to these days…

he lost the track…finallee…no more “love lockdowns”…no more “new slaves”

808’s and yeezus have left the building…
and kim’s also gone…

I wanted to like Donda so bad, but its kinda an exhausting album.

I can get its allure if I really try to concentrate on it, but I don’t have that energy easily at hand

Good god, no.

Isn’t it just like the stem format you’ve been able to get for a lot of dance tracks for some years now?

Even before that you would sometimes get promotional toys that would let you play little samples of different parts of a track.

Whenever I see confrontational (I mean, the whole ‘change my mind’ thing) posts like the one starting this thread I wonder whether I’m just falling into some poorly devised marketing.

So now it feels like the real question isn’t whether this stem player is the most innovate piece of electronic music hardware in the past decade, but whether I’m stupid for paying any attention to such a post…

does the over inflated ego come with it too?
