Kick drum sound design

Always been a fan of this kick from Blawan (main kick starts ca. 1 min). Sounds so heavy and thumpy. Tips on how to design such a sound?

I bet you could record yourself stomping on an old wooden staircase and land pretty close, roll off some of the highs, add a little high pass sub boost to taste

What synths or VSTs do you have?

DT and ST (plus more vst’s than I’d like to admit to).

You can get a similar kick from a digitone, but you have to layer it with something like a reverb.

…endless oppertunities, no matter what gear…

just think in the three essential ingredients any kind of kick always depends on…

that very first little transient click, which defines the cutthrough presence…
it’s thump in the middle, which defines it’s main character in tone appearance…
and it’s tail, which defines it’s workout balance and rhythmical disrtibution…

while in the end, any kik won’t do any trick if it does not work intertwined with some other low end counterpart it’s breathing with together as one…

depending on ur overall mixing end goal impression, u have to leave more or less mid frequencies let be still part of the whole bounce around game…

and if u layer kiks, phase comes into play…they can always work together or against each other…
in phase check means nothing but both waveforms whigglejump around zeroline in same up and and down curves or not…

and never underestimate the length of any sonic element…where something starts is as much of importance as the point where it ends…
