There is definitely a lot more going on this year.

A few quick things i spot, and there are more :

GS Music is there all the way from Argentina, and they will be showing their e7 polyphonic analog MPE synth. From a comment in a Synthtopia article on Knobcon is this :

Sean McKee
August 26, 2024 at 9:38 am

I’ll be at the GS Music booth demonstrating MPE with their wonderful e7 polyphonic analog synths being controlled by Embodme Erae Touch and Erae II MPE controllers.

I don’t see Embodme on the list but this looks like a chance to see the latest deveolpments with the ERAE II.

ADDED : GS Music now has a new synth, the Bree6, in both a keyboard and a desktop version. They are both very affordable. ( video ) Scheduled to ship in November.

Oddment Audio is making the short drive down so we can see the progress in their interesting granular synth, Groc set to ship end of the year or early 2025. ( Thread )

I notice ASM is not there for the second year in a row.

Future Retro is there ! News from them perhaps.
ADDED : ( Sept 2 ) Yes TRANSFER and 777 !

This will also be a good chance to see the new MetaModule from 4ms ! Given that VCV is also there perhaps they are coordinating some of their presentations.

ADDED :
As noted elsewhere, likely news on the LaunchKey Mk4 from Novation.

ADDED ( Sept 1 ) :
Eternal Research will be there showing off their Demon Box, exorcizing some spirits and getting ready for a Kickstarter this Fall. ( Thread ) ( Video )

Muse Electronic Instruments will be at the show, with four rather unique MIDI controllers of their own design. The Zen Flute a simple to use wind controller ( post ), the Zen Hemi, a MIDI handpan instrument, the Zen Composer, a nine pad capacitive touch cycle of fifths layout surface, and the Zen Harp, a hand held two hand touch instrument with looper. The harp is an unusual instrument, with some clever harmonic possibilities. ( Muse Electronics website )

ADDED ( Sept 5 ) :
Noise Engineering, new Eurorack Gamut Repetitor - quad random quantized generative CV sequencer. Opp Ned - four-channel arpeggiator with customizable patterns and CV control. And their first guitar pedal Dystorpia.

ADDED ( Sept 7 ) : A little of the behind the scenes on the show. There is a representative company called Voltage + Company locate in Mequon Wisconsin, not terribly far from Knobcon, that will be representing at the least Melbourne Instruments at the show. Other companies they represent at the show, that they may or may not be staffing are : Analogue Solutions, Dreadbox, JoMoX, PWM, and Studio Electronics.

ADDED ( Sept 8 ) :
The show in under a minute. :grinning:

Looks like a few more detailed videos are on the way.

Boredbrain announced availability of Optx v2 their Eurorack ADAT converter. ( video )

ADDED ( Sept 9 ) : VCV introduces VCV+ full access service. They also previewed three new modules for VCV Rack :

  • Synthesis Technology E352 & E370
  • Grayscale Nexus
  • Klavis

Michigan Synth Works – MSW-830 It’s not not quite ready to ship, but the all fader, 3 oscillator monosynth, a follow on to their 810, was playable at Knobcon.

Hite Studios – Custom made artistic stands :
Check out this amazing, freaky stand for Syntakt, and Digitakt. Might be available in a very limited run.

Also a freaky Lovecraftian Eurorack stand.

Erogenous Tones is working on a complete redo of their video synth Structure, with much more processing power and higher res. It should be out next year.

Also at the show was Entropy & Sons with a competing video synth – i posted a video on them over in this post.

All quiet on the KnobCon front, anyone go? Any news? Anything interesting?

Was KnobCon dead?

What an odd post.

KnobCon is more a synth meet than conference/showcase for new gear and stuff.

People turn the cameras off, set their mics down, and just hang out.

I hope to attend next year because that all sounds lovely to me.

Cool! I had no clue, I’ve never seen or heard anything about it.

My only frame of reference is how busy the threads for other conferences can get. In fact I think even past KnobCon threads have had a bit more discussion.

I felt like it was unusual to see no discussion this time, but you shedding light that it indeed thrived and was a successful offline event, is amazing to hear! I would consider attending in the future if that is the case.

(Edit: I understand how my post comes across as hounding for some new gear news, but really I was just looking for any info related to this event, so thank you @papertiger for a constructive response!)

No problem, @midnightoperator94!

If you are looking for a synth meet, party, and check out the stuff we make vibe, I do not think KnobCon can be beat. But, again, I have (sadly) never attended, I just know people who have gone and am good friends with someone involved with the conference.

edit: “conference”? should have said event

They also usually have some awesome lectures. In recent years there have been some on video synthesis, and last year someone spoke about Kurzweil’s V.A.S.T. system!

That’s great!

Yeah I suppose the 2022 and 2023 threads for KnobCon were misleading me a bit, they had many posts (160+ for 2022, and 50+ for 2023) so it was certainly unusual to see no activity at all.

Not to mention looking back through those threads reminded me that they seemed quite gear release-centric with many folks anticipating gear releases and making large posts collecting all of the KnobCon related gear announcements.

It’s good to know about things like the Kurzweil VAST presentation, I would be all over that! Hmm it really does seem special to have something geared towards Synth/Music meetups, hangouts and talks.
I’m a lot closer to NAMM but have never gone, i think it’s too large and daunting for me, so maybe a travel to KnobCon would be the move!

Genuinely tempted to do so as well now. This sounds lovely. Would love something similar in the UK.

Seems perfectly normal to wonder out loud on a gear-oriented forum about news from a synth event. Some people around here just get prickly sometimes. Don’t worry about it. I was wondering about it myself and I’m sure there were plenty of others. Nothing “odd” about it, imho.

Love the MSW-830! That’s going to be hard to resist when it’s released…

Yeah I was blown away but that beast!

DivKid covers the waterfront in one video.

Very successful Knobcon 12 !

Saw some new ALA modules in there and I could not work out what’s the main value proposition of products by Wildwood Soundworks.

There is a bunch of other videos from SonicState.

Exactly what I meant (after watching this and previous videos)

very cool
