Korg microKORG 2

Yeah, I saw that. Watch a video and, it does have knobs but pretty sparse compared to the two other synths. Korg did it the way they did and they’ll see what happens.

Ugly designed instrument, and ugly interface and graphic designs… I’ll stick to old one

Rather than hankering after an old MS-2000, you could just get a microKorg mk1 and run a midi controller I/O of it.

You can easily save any of the matrix to your MIDI controller (if it has save function) for recall later and you’re only limited by the number of knobs/slider/patches on your controller, so it could actually be more controllable than a 2000 if you wanted.

Yeah, I could do a lot of things. They have a VST of the microkorg as well. From a buying perspective adding hoops, like needing another piece to control it takes away from my willingness to consider it, I wouldn’t drop the money they’re asking on it in the first place. I generally buy used gear and I had the original. Not any improvements could make me think of buying it.

And Korg it seems with it’s offerings is betting enough people will buy this like it’s a Korg OP-1 knock off with the looper and I believe this has a sequencer as well. Too bad they couldn’t keep the portability in this one as I saw they ditched the battery power, and no internal one either.

I’m easily it has the king Korg (I think it’s called) engine under the hood…if so I’m not terribly interested, I was listening to demos of the king Korg and found them to be pretty lack luster, who knows maybe in the right hands it’s got a good sound, too early to tell. It kind of reminds me of the Radius and R3, I had an R3 and really didn’t like the sound it was way thin compared to the Microkorg/MS2000 engine, it had more features but the core sound was meh

I do like the sound from the microKorg, I’d love to see it’s engine used in a new Electribe groovebox, 16 tracks which can be mix of drum/synth/sampler, whereby the synth parts are using the microKorg engine, would need to be able to use more than 8 voices though.

This is such a nice microkorg video:

Edit: aah shiet, I was supposed to link this to the microkorg love thread, oh well.

AU$899 is better than I expected. I reckon local Aussie retailers might be over AU$1k

I’ve never owned a Microkorg but it seems incredibly versatile. Like a Swiss Army knife of synths.

I like direct synth page/effect/vocoder buttons and useful screen, should be nicer to program than old model with printed matrix. Bi-timbrality is very cool too, especially in a portable device. Not that psyched about that genre based program selector, but I guess that’s one thing that makes it a Microkorg.

Loopop preview!

  • He doesn’t go in depth on most things, just a quick taste. He’s saving the real deep info for the main video when it eventually comes out.
  • Synth engine sounds really good. I’m not intimately familiar with the OG but I like what I heard here. Hoping this one stays true to the OG’s sound even with the expansions.
  • Lots of FX options
  • I love the screen.
  • 5 reassignable knobs is a great idea.
  • The long-presses seem like they could feel really annoying if I’m in the zone programming, I’d rather have a shift button.
  • the harmonizer sounds fantastic.

I’m excited about this!

My GAS level has rised from zero to very high after looking the video. Great features, and the synth seems to be really easy to use.

Yeah, it seems like a really strong competitor to the minifreak in particular. I was already interested but now I’m wondering if I might actually end up buying it.

Ironically I’ve been thinking about getting rid of my *minifreak and this might be the inspo for it.

EDIT: microfreak
My bad. Coffee hasn’t kicked in yet.

Ha! And here I was just about to comment that I prefer miniFreak over this…

Cheers!

Oh I get it! It’s a great synth. I just haven’t bonded with it. I think I’m a bit too simple for the synth. Haha! I have yet to step too far out of the subtractive synth world.

There’s just too much gear being released and i’m struggling to keep up. I spend more time watching gear review videos these days than actually making music and that’s isn’t where I want to be. It’s a double edged sword.

Maybe somebody who understands the gear industry, like Loopop should do a best of the bunch feature once a week/month to highlight the innovative gear being tested as i’m reaching saturation point.

That final tune wins it for me.
