I hated the genre knob on mine until I organized all my patches and made labels on my label maker that I placed over the default genre labels… now I love it. Makes getting to the patches I want crazy easy and fast.

The best solution for this that I’ve found is to just unplug from gear-release outlets. On YouTube I unfollowed every channel that focuses on selling me stuff with the exception of Loopop and Sonicstate. No store channels, no youtubers trying to convince me to buy this thing that totally revolutionized their music (which they will never mention again). Unsubscribed from newsletters/ emails from stores and manufacturers. I stopped visiting certain forums which have even more gear-focused discussion than this place does. Those changes have had a tremendously positive effect for me.
I agree.
I don’t understand why any manufacturer would presume to impose upon someone’s creative aesthetic with such arbitrary labels. It only stands to put someone off, if they don’t relate to said music. Genre is a very polarizing topic for a lot of people.
There’s something vaguely patronizing about it too.
Cheers!
Me too. Those Retro colours are the best ive ever seen on a Synth
Haha you’ve gotta read the rest of my post John, I actually am a big fan of it now. The trick was adding my own labels. I do think Korg should have just had blank spaces on the knob surround for labels like a patch bay though.
The VPM oscillator mod mode where any waveforms can be used for the operator and carrier is the main star of the show imo.
A synth with a built in achievement system.
Wow. That’s the most 2024est thing I’ve heard so far.
Final God Level Acheivement help needed
The Octatrack could probably do with an achievement system tbh, might be beneficial for some
Making your own labels is a really good idea, I can imagine how useful that can be.
Didn’t the manual for the OG have pictures of fingers turning the knobs with descriptions of what the changes will sound like?
I think they’ve really done some clever things with the UI while keeping the spirit of the OG alive. And it seems the new engine actually borrows quite a few things from the KingKorg (like the VPM waves) and falls somewhere in between both.
Yeah, the first time I’ve seen Microkorg - was this band live
It looked cool on stage and fitted their appearance.
Well, yes, but we agree that it needed fixing.
I’ve got nothing against the knob itself.
Cheers!
Variable filter types - definitely from Radias engine, probably in it’s newest form like on Electribes from 2016. In general a nice update (not sure about design, but the features are cool).
For me the best part of Microkorg/MS2000 were DWGS, this little package of waves is very musical and stood the time.
That is indeed a very cool feature, and one that I overlooked.
Ok. I want one of these now… especially, because I’m coincidentally looking for a compact midi keyboard. I want the metallic black version.
This is still in Beta testing mode yes? How quick are Korg at getting stuff out?
Shame it’s missing reverbs from the op6/mw/ws/nts series (just like King Korg Neo), vocoder at first glance still sounds sort of lo fi (but might have been just because the carrier - looks like it’s 16 bands so should be nicer sounding) and what’s up with lack of midi thru on latest Korgs?
I like what I’ve heard otherwise and I really like the interface - seems much nicer to operate than R3 I used to have and screen looks great and clear. And it has oscilloscope, yay
Damnit, I just bought my Microkorg…like 20 years ago. Come on Korg, give us some time before you release a MK2 and make the original obsolete and tank its value. Pfffft.
