Kurzweil K2700

Yea it’s true. You can make some pretty interesting sounds with it too, but it’s easy to use in they way.

Sounds awesome! Def need to do more m8 with kurz. I think I posted something on the m8 discord a while back but can’t find it now

Your forgetting the XV can do powerful synthesis too if you read the manual for the XV 5080 it has rung modulation and cross modulation and filters and LFOs ! Almost got one then got the kurzweil instead. Also want the Roland integra 7 ! For its amazing acoustic instrument realism.

Yeah seems like the k2700 could stick around for a long time doesn’t kurzweil know everyone is buying thier racks right now ahaha !! Need a k2700R model for the smaller studio spaces! And cheaper price lol I saw a used one of reverb for 2500$ish

Need to get stuck in with my jv1080, but moving house soon so all packed away!

I have a feeling that I’m just getting excited bcs of the Coil-ish sounds I hear done with these synths. I will never sound like them and I don’t want to try to sound like them but still it’s easy to kind of gravitate towards stuff that reminds me of their art.

I would probably just get annoyed with the complexity of these instruments v soon and feel like a moron for going for it for the dumbest reasons lol.

I just bought the Waldorf M and I should/will be exploring it thoroughly before even thinking about buying more gear.

Some of the liquid-like trippy sounds of the Kurzweil synths just sound so alien and intriguing that I got excited.

Your answer was very valuable and snapped me out of it so thank you for that.

Wanted to try some things Kurzweil for many years, but damn, they are too huge and expensive even in a rack format  We are not in a golden age of grooveboxes, so compact VAST box would not happen…

(The dual nature of such keyboards was always confusing me. Many people see them as expensive romplers or stage keyboards, while in fact they are sound designer’s dream. If I was not reading Gearsl*ts forum for a while I had no idea of how interesting these keyboards are)

Totally with you there, and while a friend has been buying up and tweaking Kurzweils and many more samplers to get that Coil sound (also quizzing Thighpaulsandra and Danny Hyde as to what they used and how), he and I both recently got MicroFreaks and the new sample playing capabilities can certainly do rather Coilish things, though doubtless not to quite the same level of complexity as the K2000 etc.

Yeah there are probably many ways to achieve something akin to what they were doing with many modern and quite cheap synths.

Sometimes it’s so easy to forget that it’s mostly about how the gear is being used rather than what the gear is.

With Coil it seems like they really obsessed over cool new technology, software etc, while also of course using old analog gear.

Tbh this morning I noticed in a Finnish second-hand market place a K2000 V3 for sale for 350€ and it had been listed yesterday. I called them and they told me it was already gone.
I would have bought it no question about it.

Now I’m actually happy I was too late. Maybe next time though.

Absolutely; and the continuation of the methods and experimental / home-brewed technology used by Throbbing Gristle is direct of course. Things like the K2000 must have seemed a huge step up from the tape machines of the 1970s and from when Coil were using Synclaviers etc in the 80s. The K2700 seems like it’s even further long that lineage of course.

For sure!

It would be cool to see videos on what new and exciting, experimental things the K2700 is bringing to the table compared to the K2600 for example. Most of the videos I’ve found so far are demonstrating the electric piano sounds and whatnot.

Yeah guys k27000 demos are pretty weak ! I thought the same thing about all the waldorf iridium demos but now I’m using the iridium in a more experimental way than most users ! I think maybe using the kurzweil helped. But yeah need someone stacking FM and VA and orchestra samples and user samples and 28 other layers and all layers have crazy FUNS LFOs with the new Fx DSp it’s gunna be crazy ! Ahaha Atleast that’s how I feel about the new machine - they give you the VAST system back plus more synthesis !

Metal guitar let’s go ahaha

Yeah seems like you just find demos like this and all the lame just stock stuff without putting any work to filters for algorithms for the VAST system ahaha I hope they kept the partials for waveforms from the k2600!

A little peak into the Fm algorithms

I needed a laptop stand, so I got it out of the closet. I had forgotten how good this thing sounds.

Not sure I am going to get into details of editing, although I did skim all of the manuals last night for a refresher.

Silly me had been looking up SCSI to USB… Looks like I’ve got some research to do.

I remember clearly in the mid-90’s getting my first Kurzweil- a K2000RS- and being quite surprised that so many of the sounds on Love’s Secret Domain were factory presets in it… including all the sounds in “Dark River”.

Nah you don’t want that shit it’s way easier to put the files on usb stick then put it and leave it in your floppy emu / also mine makes floppy disk noises when I loads stuff ahaha

@papertiger
I got soemthing like this but I had to edit the confit to get it not to over scrub past everything when I turned the knob one of my M8 buddies with a k2000 figured that out it saved me from not being able to use it! If any of your guys buy this I can share the proper config file that’s already edited ! And this dude sends you tons of kurzweil floppy files or I’ll just upload them if you guys need em !
