I’m pretty new to Logic Pro and to the world of Mac and DAWs to be honest, just a few months of (not intensive) use.
I am using some plugins without any issue but for some others I’m stuck.
Logic finds them when I scan, they are valid, yet they don’t appear in the list of Audio Units. What am I doing wrong/missing?
Not too sure, it’s been a while, but maybe the designation is wrongly tagged, like it swaps instruments with effects … i vaguely recall a few plugins which seemed to do something a little like this, perhaps as they have external ins, they get misinterpreted
Note that there are slots for “MIDI FX”, “Instruments”, and “Audio FX”.
“MIDI FX” are for plugs that have MIDI out only, like arps and some sequencers.
“Instruments“ are for audio generators like synth plugs. They usually take in MIDI and output audio. They don’t take in audio.
“Audio FX” is for FX plugs that take in audio and output audio. So reverbs, compressors, etc.
Logic filters out plugs that don’t fit in a certain section. So FabFilter’s Twin3 shows up in the Instruments list, but not MIDI FX or Audio FX. Their Saturn saturator, is shown under Audio FX, but not Instruments or MIDI FX.
My issue is actually about some Audio Fx. They do appear as validated but are not displayed in the sub menu Audio Units.
I tried reinstalling them, redetecting all plugins, rebooting, …
It seems i’m not the only one to face this bug. I found some info about deleting the audio cache files but that was a pre M1 info, can’t find the same files to delete on my Macbook Air M1.
For instance, some free plugins like RatShack Reverb 3 from Audio Damage, Oril River from Denis Tihanov, TAL Reverb 4.
I assumed that they are compatible if they were validated within Logic Pro but can’t be sure.
I don’t understand the notion of “notarized” (i’m not a native english speaker maybe that’s why).
In simple terms it just means that the plugin has a “seal of approval” from Apple so it can be opened in macOS with no fuss. But you say they show up in the plugin list as validated, so that’s probably not the case here.
…if a plugin is not “ready” for the new arm architecture, they get realtime translated in the background via rosetta…
so ready or not, they should work anyways…
but usually, whenever u got a fresh installed plugin and then open logic for the first time again, an exec icon pops up in the dock and logic has to “read” it first during booting up…
sure, that happens in ur case…?
otherwise they still show up in the thirdparty plugin list of logic, but remain useless and therefor don’t show up in the workflow menu…
but it’s a common thing with lot’s of freebie plugins, that they don’t work, even if validated…
many of those just don’t see the next final effort to catch up with the latest standards…
do u have the option to try them in another daw for testing…?
meanwhile, logic offers that many on board plugin solutions…don’t get lost in troubleshooting too much…u’ll find alternative pluin substitutes within logics mainframe for almost everything…
