M8 Tracker

I’m running it through a Retrokits RK005. Don’t think they make ’em anymore but RK006 should do the trick too.

I think you just talked me into pushing the button on my shopping bag at Dirtywave.

This is awesome, thanks for sharing!

I recommend anybody with an interest in the M8 to go on the Discord, it’s an astonishingly upbeat and helpful community with resources that benefit all makers of electronic music, regardless of the tools they use.

Hey, he’s trying to lure us out of the Elektronauts forum where nobody uses Elektrons any more!

That’s right. Unfortunately, Discord is a total mess. It’s simply not my platform.

Thanks! I have one of the original launch controls, the one with 16 knobs. I am curious about a device to add knobs for to the m8, but the need for external power starts complicating things.

I agree. There is SO MUCH knowledge locked into that platform which is a horrible way to manage and organize such knowledge. I spent a while lurking because it is insanely pleasant and I was waiting for m8. Better than hitting refresh in my email while I was waiting, but now I do not visit unless I need to try and unearth something.

Yeah - i have a power bank. Annoying cableage but great fun too!

My M8 (received at the end of September) hums quite loudly as soon as it is turned off. Only the M8’s audio output is connected directly to my speakers. No USB, no MIDI, no power supply.

Two different ground loop isolators did not improve anything, the hum got even louder.

Of course I tried different cables and even different speakers. And also connected a mixer in between. Without success.

When the M8 is switched on, everything is perfect.

Since I don’t have a comparison, I would like to know if your M8 also hums when turned off? If so, is the hum rather quiet or rather loud?

The same story. Hum is rather loud.

I honestly have a ton of great stuff made on the M8, I keep listening to them while browsing projects. I’m amazed how much cool stuff I got from it.

Here’s a trap beat I want to make into a full track.

Same loud hum yes…

Just got my Roland S-1 a couple of days ago, still going through it.

I haven’t tried yet as MIDI controller with the M8, but on paper it adds some nice knobs for the m8, plus 2-octave mini keyboard, all battery powered and with only one jack cable between them.

I think it’s a very nice companion for the m8, considering you also get a pretty good 4-voice synth!

I bought one to try for that purpose and I could not stand how it feels and operates, even as a MIDI controller.

The anachronistic LCD screen, the menus, etc. left me cold. I bought it on a Friday and used it maybe an hour or two before it went back in the box by Sunday afternoon.

When M8 is off, I get bad interference as well, so I got used to muting the input and unplugging it beforehand.

Is this only a ‘when it’s off’ hum if you’re connected to speakers?

Thankfully, no hum (wish I could say that of some of my other gear!)
