M8 Tracker

Haha, I’ve never sampled so much as with the M8. The sampling feature is very well thought-out, the sample editing tools complete and easy to use. The crossfade algorithm alone is a bless and delivers fantastic results that I don’t know from any other sampling device.

Don’t worry. It’s just as easy to neglect the M8 as well. Mine has sat untouched for over a month. I get it out now and then to update the firmware or just look wistfully at a charming embodiment of my fading interest in making music.

I’ve looked at the sampling features and it looks awesome, for sure! Just haven’t gotten to it yet. For live sampling I still just use my Octatrack, which is no slouch either

4-6h is too short for you? And what makes a micro usb annoying? Genuinely want to know.

Same. I have no problems with connector and the battery lasts long enough. The duration is not like op-1, but I think it is good.

Regarding Micro USB, I think many have concerns about the lack of robustness. With the M8, it is the USB port that is on the Teensy. The Teensy inside the M8 is SMD soldered. A defect in the USB socket would be equivalent to a total loss (or at least a costly repair).

Fortunately, I have rarely had problems with USB Micro so far. However, I make sure to use only proper USB cables. Especially with USB Micro there are a lot of junk cables.

I’m no fan of micro USB but the M8s is possibly the most robust port I’ve come across.

I do get the battery criticism though. It’s not that 4-6 hours isn’t enough. It’s more like “hassle” of charging and regularly topping it up. I will concede to being majorly spoiled by the OP1F which has a ridiculously good battery that lasts forever and holds its charge for an age.

Interesting…Personally, I don’t see me ever selling my M8. The micro USB just is what it is and I don’t get fussed about it. 4-6 hour battery life? I don’t get that much, but I just either charge it while I’m using it at home or I keep a small power brick nearby when I travel. I just get too much done on it to worry about that stuff

While I’ve had micro USB ports die before on phones, the M8’s one is rock solid even after all the years so far. (Have one of the original beta units) the battery life is enough that when it’s getting low it’s definitely time to take a break anyway. I keep a small 5000mah battery pack in the case with it if I need to charge it a few times.

I get 3 to 4 hours max. But if I remember correctly that is as advertised.

I have a M8 on the way and my main question is how it handles audio/bpm when changing projects, while the sequencer is running. I think I read that the load time is fairly quick.

do the audio tails cut? I’m assuming bpm changes to the new project bpm.

chime in w your experience, thanks

Why would you need a separate earbuds case when the M8 comes with it’s own case with room for buds and whatever else you’d need? I wouldn’t take the M8 out without something to keep it protected in anyway.

Your wishes are completely understandable for me. And yes, I would also wish for that. And more: I think it’s a shame that you can’t mount the M8 as a drive. Especially because the SD card slot is so fiddly to use.

But the M8 is the way it is.

I also thought about buying it for a longer time. I also thought of “vote with your wallet”. On the other hand, I find the M8 so unique that I simply didn’t want to wait any longer and accepted the mentioned limitations.

And I’m glad I made the decision to buy the M8, because the true value of the M8 lies in its incredibly well-designed software.

I think here make problems out of things that are not problems.

Thanks for your reply. In your case it is clear you have some issues. I’m glad you wrote them out as I think most people won’t see your hangups as an impediment to them enjoying the M8. We’re all different though…

I just wish they were a coder/developer and could design and build their own device. Could bring a new piece of gear to market.

Device comes with a high quality version of the right cable and even has a little pocket to keep it inside the case…
Find your argument hard to take seriously.

It never will. Sorry to dash your dreams.

Not trying to act stinky here, people can do what they like. But I make sure to safeguard my own convenience by not throwing away cables (of any kind) unless they’re broken.
