Machinedrum Power supply

Hello everyone.
I have a question. I have a used machinedrum and the cable of the Power supply was damaged a little bit. Now it is not working anymore. I bought a power supply via eBay which was described as made for the Machinedrum but IT IS not the original one from Elektron.
So, if I now turn on the Machinedrum, the system does not boot up- Display glows without showing the letters, LEDs glow as well, but nothing else happens.

Can anyone tell me, what the problem might be.
(Maybe that is a dumb question, but I have no technical knowledge about electronic stuff!)

Best regards,. Florian

MKI Machinedrum needs a 6-volt power supply with AC power
MKII Machinedrum needs a 6-volt power supply with DC power

Most other elektron devices require 12 volts DC power

I would first confirm (and post the information here) about which model and generation of MD as well as to confirm the voltage, polarity, and amperage of the power supply you purchased and compare that to the original.

I would do that before you attempt to power it with the new supply again, so that you know for sure that you aren’t at risk of damaging the unit itself.

It’s lighting up so one would assume that it is accurate to the AC/DC spec, but if it’s being underpowered and can’t boot up then perhaps it’s a power supply for a later elektron device.

Any supposition without adding further information about your specific device and the PSU will just be a guessing game, so try to be specific and hopefully it will become clear what the problem is.

Good luck.

You can also check the manual for additional references, page 94 of the MK2 manual, which cover differences between the 2 models.
