I’ve been meaning to get the pulsewidth fader on mine fixed for age, thanks for the reminder, I must really do that.

Plenty of quirks, bit it sounds immense.

yeah i love the delay on it - the softer sounds have so much depth and clarity plus it gets really really nasty

I see this thread, and it instantly reminds me how sad it is that Malekko shut down permanently. They built some really great gear. RIP

Is there a source that says that? I can’t find any concrete info that says that and their website looks like they still sell stuff.

They retired from the business, without any official announcement. They made a few posts about it, and supposedly they disbanded in january. If you look through most forums, you’ll see many people complaining that malekko stopped responding to messages at all through their website, and even a rep from perfect circuit said they cant get a hold of them.

Unfortunately, Malekko as a company is no more. Here is what Josh did say:

Hadn’t seen this officially but figured. I had been in contact with them about the repair but contact went dead about a year ago - I’d been meaning to find someone local to take it on but hadn’t gotten around to it. Tbh it felt like the writing was on the wall for a while with how firmware development stalled here.

They have/had some really cool stuff, voltage block, varigate, etc. It would be nice if they opened up or sold on the IP so some of this stuff could stay current.

The firmware on the Manther seems like it’s about 85% there but could just use a few tweaks, it would be great if they’d open it up or pass it on. Although this never really bothered me that much because of how good it sounds.

it is a very good sounding unit - firmware is always one step away from greatness in most things!

I’ve got one, fun synth, I’m okay with it, but a buddy of mine has been coming over and jamming with it. He’s been getting it to some truly impressive places.
Its got a really great sequencer, midi is garbage though

Just finished listening to the Charlie XCX, George Daniel & A.G. Cook Tape Notes podcast. Alex talked a little about using the Manther on the track 365.

I was looking pretty closely at the manther when it first popped up. There were reports of issues with the firmware so i held off. If they had fixed all the lil issues and given it consistent updates it woulda been an easy buy.

i think theres a pattern where ppl who are really good at hardware and electronics never quite get their with the software/UI. I always really liked their euro and pedals, making a full synth with sequencer, fx etc aint the same.

just dusted off this little monster and its a beast for sure can do full on soundscapes and acid lines and drum beats and percussion all from one sequence if you work the faders and knobs bit - very rewarding little synth and a lovely sound too

It sounds so good. I hadn’t plugged mine in for a while because the pulse width fader isn’t working but this thread getting bumped prompted me to give it a go for the first time in a while and … damn.

I had actually been thinking of selling it as-is to fund an Atlantix, I can’t seem to get anyone local to take it on for a service. But I’ve been working around for now by as an alternative setting the sub to square and 0st and looking for presets that have close to the pulsewidth setting I’m looking for. Which is actually working out ok, but it’s just gonna bug me so better get it fixed.

Just wondering does anyone know what fader Malekko used in these? They advised me to try deoxit which I did and it went from flaky to not registering at all. Was thinking it might be as simple as a dry joint, I opened it up and there doesn’t seem to be much solder on any of the slider legs. But it’s lighting up when I cycle the power like the rest so I guess that at least some of the connections must be fine.

Probably a little beyond my skillset to try replacing the fader and no guarantee that’s the problem, but I feel like it’s a keeper.

get one - they are hard to find but over the years i have bought and sold a couple in my madness - i think once a synth goes out of production it becomes a bit less easy to service but any competent electronics engineer would be able to sort out most problems - i think they are quite well built

I have some seller’s regret about no longer having one. I ‘had’ to but would welcome one back.
