Maschine mk3 Or push 2

What about maschine mk3 + maschine jam !

Not only that, but the knobs are as far away from you as possible on the device- which is annoying if you’re sitting at a desk and trying to use it to help sculpt your sounds.

(That being said, I didn’t much care for the Maschine software workflow- as far as composing. Jamming was fun)

I have both, never use any of the controllers.
I love maschine and the sounds + vsts that follows with it worth the purchase alone, but i only use it as a vst in ableton.

Agreed, I think Maschine feels more like a groovebox somehow. But I only have Maschine mk2. Push 2 feels more complete as a unit but you still need a mouse for some stuff.

Maschine works fine as a sequencer. No need for Live. Watch some videos.

Used Octatrack, $240 of weed, and a pizza.

I think push 2 is too big, but the ableton software is really good. I tried ableton 10, the new wavetable synth was very nice… it sounded so good, but also is too conplex for me to make music.

The maschine feels plastic to me, the software is not as good as ableton

I checken ni forum and decided i am not even gonna try to ask a question like this

I can be disappointed about software… but as a groovebox, maschine is pretty big. I have to accept it is not a daw like ableton or bitwig or Logic.

So… maybe the question for me should be: do i want

a daw or a groovebox, right? Or is push 2 abletons groovebox?

Still confused, but i really appreciate your help!

And i tried octatrack several times… the workflow stops all music making pleasure for me, sorry for that

Having the OP quandary myself.

Recently upgraded my MacBook only to discover that my machine mk1 controller is not supported/will not work anymore (confirmed on NI support pages. However my upgraded software of 2.7 does. I get this is the nature of the tech but left me a little salty. Especially when I cannot buy a new MK3 controller only.

I really wish/hope Ableton would consider adding an audio interface to a future version of push. Less wires and boxes.

Then there is the Price difference between the two.

Both seem great in there own way. It is a tough decision.

Started off with a Push 1 and Ableton, got a Push 2, then an MK3, gave away the Push 2.

The Push 2 is beautiful but to be real some key things are not very intuitive. I kept coming back to it because I loved the look but obviously looks aren’t everything. Plus, browsing on the Push 2 is dreadful sometimes, depending on the type of sample. Live 10 has Collections now to make browisng easier but you still have to dig for them yourself then label accordingly. The Push 2 gives an impressive amount of control from the controller but can be cumbersome at times. Often times you’ll find yourself going through sub menus to change 1 thing, then have to backtrack to make another change.

With the MK3 browsing is a breeze and the stock sounds are quite impressive, and I absolutely do not touch or look at my computer at all while creating except for saving the file name. Everything else can be accomplished right from the controller. The only thing I don’t like compared to the Push is how note repeat is handled, but I have a Launchpad Pro to make up for that when working in Live. The MK3 also makes a decent controller for Live as well, but the Jam is much more suitable for that.

I can highly recommend the MK3 over the Push 2.

The Mk3 feels really solid to me. I don’t have a Push 2, I’m sure that’s really solid, but I wouldn’t worry about build quality with the Mk3.

The reason I went with the Mk3 is:

  1. it’s similar to an MPC & I love the MPC workflow.
  2. it’s fast & to the point. I personally like the sequencer, but Ableton has a lot more options, it’s way more flexible. I like Ableton’s sequencer better, but I’m able to do what I want in Maschine & I got used to it (I also have Ableton Suite & a Launchpad Pro, so I can use it still if I want).
  3. I work on a computer, so when making music I prefer to stay away from a computer. At the same time, software has so much to offer I wanted to add it to my workflow (Ableton & Launchpad get ignored as I have to use the mouse/computer A LOT), so I got a Mk3 as you can do EVERYTHING on the Mk3. I do not touch my mouse & I close my laptop, like it’s not there (even tho it is :o) I hear you need a mouse for a lot of the features when using Push 2 (if you are ok with that, then no issue there).
  4. Mk3 is cheaper.

Yeah, I was a part of the NI forum, but quickly got out of that place. I haven’t checked back in awhile, it WAS just full of complaints…complaints about really stupid, trivial things. A lot of negativity. Not sure how it is now. But I really like the Mk3. I got it right before Thanksgiving, so I’ve had it a little over 8 months. Still works great & I’ve had no issues. It just depends what you’re looking for. Ableton is a full DAW & Maschine Mk3 is a groovebox…

You could consider Maschine mk3 and a used launchpad pro, you get best of both worlds, control ableton, add 64 pads to the maschine plus you can use it as a standalone controller for synths with scales built in. If you want you can upgrade the firmware to have a grid sequencer like the push. I enjoy using this setup a lot, haven’t owned a push 2 but I don’t feel like I’m missing anything at all

I prefer the Push since I use Ableton most of the time as my DAW and it was designed for the best integration controller from the ground up. If I was using the Maschine and NI apps more the Maschine controller would be ideal. In some ways I prefer the pads better on the Maschine and nicer new color screens.

Machine and Push are both very nice controllers for specific tasks, but they don’t feel like an instrument to me. Still too much dependency on the laptop

Came to say this. Using Mashine inside of Ableton was a inelegant experience for me. If you want to use Ableton, Push is where it is at. If you want to use Mashine software and you own Komplete Ultimate then Mashine could be a good time.

Also you can bounce your individual loop tracks out of machine and throw them in live.

Yes it is not as elegant but you can really focus composition in standalone and do sequencing in live.

You could also hold your breath and wait for 3.0. We’re in 2.7.7 already.

What about a drum :drum: kit, Pearl style

Or the roland spd sx?

Feeling the groove, sequence later

That was a horrible workflow for me. Tedious and unsustainable.
