I am looking for a digital instrument to combine with the heat mk2 (and self made performance midi controllers). But what to choose? Maschine (I hate machines filters But this will be fixed by heat)
So… go push 2 Or go maschine mk3?

It would be nice to hear a bit about your goals. Do you do linear arranging? Or mostly pattern-based stuff? Do you like to chop samples, play pad drums, or rather melodies using pads? Stuff like this helps, I’ve just thought about this myself
Agreed, it helps a lot.
I have a push 2 and a Maschine MK1. To me, the question is more around the software and what the overall goal is. Ableton is capable of much more but personally, I’m probably happier when playing on Maschine (this flip flops from time to time though!).
I’d Def say that Maschine is a better live set up if you add a Jam to the mix.
As Maschine can host VSTs, you can have any software filter you want (same applies to Live).
Slightly off topic, but I just sold my Maschine MK3 and bought a cheap bass guitar and an Analog Drive with the money. I recommend that solution wholeheartedly.
I have the maschine studio, Mpc studio, and push 2.
Push 2 wins.
-You can use the Mpc swing templates.
-You get step sequencing built in.
-Eventually my big fingers go used to finger drumming on the slightly smaller push pads.
-The cytomic filters included add character.
-browsing through my drum samples is a breeze.
When I’m bored I go to the other room of my place and make music on the maschine studio and Mpc studio. I am making garage, boom bap hip-hop , and filtered house on those machines.
Same here, have an MPC Studio, Maschine, Push 2…of those I like the Push 2 best, then the MPC and lastly the Maschine…What‘s marvellous about the Maschine is the Komplete integration and the consequential browsing and loading of sounds. After that, the Push 2 feels better, does more, is more beautiful.
My 2 cents
I should add that for finger drumming, the MPC Studio is by far the best (I got it on a recommendation from David Haynes, who swears by those pads).
which software do you use, Ableton or Maschine?
Anybody own both a push and a maschine and can shed some light on the difference between the pads? I had a Micro and have a push 1. The micros pads are so much better than the push 1 that I can hardly compare them. But I have heard that the Push 2 has improved pads and am wondering how they fare to the maschine ones.
If you have the NI suite of software, get the Maschine. Brilliant advice.
Both for sketching but if I am deep into writing live 10.
I am afraid of the sequencer in the sequencer When chosing for maschine inside ableton.
I dont know what I want
I have this maschine 1, But updated my OSX and now it doesnt work Anymore
I want to use ableton with my midi-juggling balls and midi bird-cage which I can play like a harp
I think new possibilities for live 2.6 & 2.7 look amazing, the workflow of maschine looks amazing and the workflow in push looks slow.
Sorry for the fragmented post; But that happens When I dont know…
Push 2 has improved pads (softer, more responsive) - personally I find the Maschine pads too responsive, a bit hard to play in the lower velocity registers.
That said, for finger drumminng, the Maschine (any version) surely beats the Push (any version) on the size of the pads alone.
For everything else, I find the Push to be more versatile, faster, more fun to use.
Maschine is better in terms of loading Groups/Projects from controller.
I was using Maschine live, loading different Groups with prepared patterns on the fly. Worked like a charm. Also keeps all routings if you want. New Lock button is awesome. You can go crazy with all params then reset to last locked state.
For me combination of Live Lite/Intro + Maschine MK3 works best.
Almost all gear is packed and boxed at the moment because we will be moving soonish after summer but I let my son play with my maschine Mk1 on the last OSX when I am fiddling in the studio space. It was working fine last time I checked (in standalone).
FWIW, this is part of why I decided against the MK3 Maschine after trying it out for a while.
My main compositional process is a linear one – I record long passages into Ableton’s Arrangement view. Together with this, I found integrating the Maschine a bit of a chore and not as easy as I’d hoped. It seemed like I’m adding another separate part to an already creaking whole. Having Push 2 instead started making a lot more since, because that’s not another system to be added, it’s added control to my system.
But, that being said, Push 2 is pretty much Session view oriented, so I’m not entirely sure Push 2 is precisely the thing I’m after, either
I hate using Maschine inside Live. Has always felt incredibly bulky (for want of a better word). I like my ITB experience to be as stress free as possible - Maschine in Live reminded me of days trying to make OTB gear work nicely together haha.
@wouzer - there’s a feeling that Maschine 3.0 may not be too far away so perhaps it’s worth some more effort trying to get that Mk1 of yours working with OSX just now and see how you get on? Perhaps even look at getting a 2nd hand Mk2 or a Studio just now - they are dirt cheap at the moment.
It also might be worth having some patience to see what happens in the Bitwig space. I’m sure I read that with recent updats, Bitwig could be programmed to take advantage of Push/Maschine controllers.
Not helping you at all when you’re already unsure of things, sorry.
If I had to decide. Maschine.
It’s applicable standalone or inside any DAW.
Ergonomically it works way better for me than the Push 2 did. The Push 2 is rather big and spacious compared to Maschine.
