Model Cycles - Sound Routing for Improvisational Performances

Hi everyone!

I’m an active user of Elektron Model Cycles, primarily for live performances, and I’ve come across a challenge that could significantly simplify the process. Maybe someone here has faced this before or found a workaround?

Here’s the issue:

  1. I’d like to preview the sound of a selected track (or channel) exclusively in headphones, without routing it to the master channel.
  2. I also want to preview sounds when selecting presets from the preset menu only in headphones, without interfering with the current mix.

As far as I know, this feature isn’t currently available on the Model Cycles. Does anyone know a way to achieve this, either through external devices or clever tricks?

I’d really appreciate any advice if someone has tackled this before.

Hard panning some tracks left and right and running into separate channels on a mixer (probably DJ style) with cue functionality. And/or incorporate panning solution and utilise a 2nd M:C…Or Octatrack: build up patterns you enjoy, record on OT and then cue new elements to add to your loop on another track. Poorly worded as rushing around!

Not particularly elegant but enough to get the conversation rolling perhaps.

Another workaround is using a midi synced looper like the rc-505 for example. You can record a loop of the pattern that is running, then turn down the volume of the M:C and listen to new sounds/tracks over the headphones. When you found what you want you fade back to the signal of the M:C. Works pretty well but of course the loop won’t change for as long as you search for the new sequence or sound.
