Moog Sound Studio

Hey, I was wondering if anyone could help me out?

I’m starting to piece together a 60hp effects and utilities rack. I already have the sound studio, and was hoping to use the moog 60hp case and make a 4 tier setup.

I’m just wondering if I bought a delay or reverb module, is the rear audio outs on the M32, Dfam, and SubH the only way to get audio into the modules?

I feel like I’m missing something very obvious

Thank you

No, use the VCA outputs to get a “modular level” audio output.

Hey! Sorry I didn’t catch this earlier — I’ve found it sort of lives in two categories for me: when I’m looking for more exact, the start/stop and midi in on Mother 32 is where I go for Master.

If it’s syncing the 3 to each other and having them groove in more organic ways, I prefer using DFAM or SubHarm as master clock, then patch to mult on the M32 to create enough clocks for the other two.

I find that syncing the DFAM’s trigger as a clock output or one of the Subharm’s sequencer clocks gives less rigid and more surprising outcomes, which is generally what I try for within the trio.

Hope that helps! If clocks are a big concern I’d recommend dropping a utility module like Pam’s New Workout or (my favorite) Ornament & Crime to handle the exact clocking/time division needs.

:pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::pray::sunglasses: thank you

This is awesome to know about triggering with DFam. Than you!

anyone find it odd that Moog sell the tiered rack stands by themselves but they don’t sell the line mixer / power distributor from the Sound Studio? i’m trying to build a system bit by bit as I can’t afford to go all-in at once…

Or the dust cover, which is something I really would appreciate, but didn’t get since I bought things individually, like you.

I do have the mixer/power splitter, and have to say that the mixer is ok, but the power splitter is super useful. Only one big chunky plug needed…

oh, how did you get the mixer then?

I don’t get why they don’t either.

For what it’s worth, I bought a cover from digital deck covers. It actually is way better than the one that come with the sound studio. The Moog cover only covers the front panel, but the one I bought completely covers the whole unit.

I hope this shows what I mean.

Good question. I got the mixer/power splitter by getting a duo (M-32/DFAM), since I already had a SH. That came with a mixer, but no dust cover. Or cute little card game (which seems sort of silly, but I would still really like to try out)…

Huh. That is very useful – thanks for posting the pictures.

I ended up getting three of these on etsy:

which cover only the front, and need all cables removed. I got a variety of colors, though, and it looks pretty cool and seems like a minimal level of protection against dust and scratches. The one from digital deck covers seems to be much more protective, though.

Seen some posts on some other forums, BUT I value opinions here and was wondering, for those who bought separately, how are you powering all 3 (e.g., daisy chain, etc.). Would love to avoid using three wall worts if at all possible

When I had all 3 separately, euro rack  When they weren’t racked, wall worts.

I’m kind of curious about this:

(well, actually more curious about the BirdCord PD).

Dieter says delete.

That’s interesting. I wonder if it is because the M32 and DFAM both have attenuators for ext. audio. That would be some moog-centric reasoning I suppose but might make sense.

Good time lies ahead. When sleep does come—in a few days—you’ll dream of patching the thing!

They certainly did, didn’t they? A joy just to look at the materials they provide, and I’m saying this from seeing only online info. I would be like a kid in a mega toy store. I know it comes with an east-coast design territory, but I’d certainly self-feedback the heck out of this thing!
