New E.P and Tokyo Festival of Modular Gig

Hello everyone!

To tie in with my live show in Tokyo this Saturday I have put together a timely release.

Album:
Tier One Operations is the name and it consists of dark ambient sounds and hypnotic Techno beats.

The name of the album comes from a phone call with my cousin who told me I looked like a ‘Grizzled Tier One Operator’ hahahaha guess that doesn’t really matter!

The music was made with modular being ran through the Analog Heat. Mainly the Techno System and Mutable Instruments. Apart from one track that I made with MiRack on the way to Tokyo’s famous Five G
shop.

Tokyo Festival of Modular (FoM):
Last year I went as a spectator and had an amazing time. People are great and the gear on show was so good I think my jaw is somewhere on the floor still. The location is in a really cool spot in downtown Tokyo.
Stoked to be playing alongside some of the best in the world.

Is anyone else going this weekend? Here are the set times for Saturday. I will try and go on Sunday, too.

Here’s some more info. Click on the artist to read their bio and find links. I spent a long and happy time going through their music. Highly recommended.

This is fantastic. Congrats on being on the bill for FOM. Every year my Japan plans and FOM’s schedule fail to coincide, but every year I feel the pull to try and make it happen. I’m gonna make it for next year if it kills me. Have a great time and I hope the set is well-received. I added your release to my BC wishlist, I’ll try to remember to snap it up on payday. Cheers!

Thanks a bunch for your kind and positive words @stoic_dolphin
The tunes in this album are live jams on the modular recorded straight to stereo out and that’s it… just the way I like it; raw and uncut.

FoM is dope. I don’t really get up to much and that was the highlight of my year by a country mile. There seems to more of these events popping up like Machina in Bristol; if I were still in my hometown I’d definitely go. The one in Beijing last week looked killer as well.

Thanks for adding Tier One Operations to your wish list.

What’s your workflow, pal?

Big congrats on the the live spot at FoM…enjoy every minute.
Just picked up the new EP. Hitting play right about … NOW!

Heh, I don’t really have a “workflow” per-se, I’m just an aspirational hobbyist who bashes on grooveboxes and makes noisy modular patches to try and relax after a long day or week of reverse tetris e-commerce order fulfillment. I’d love to build up both the confidence and the set to be able to plop into an open mixer/modular nights kind of gig some day, but that’s about as pie in the sky as I allow my dreams to get these days. Still, attending FOM is a bucket list item for me. I missed the first one by about a week (although I did luck into an AMAZING Merzbow/Bastard Noise/Keiji Haino/Balazs Pandi noise gig at Superdeluxe before that location went away). Each year I feel like I get simultaneously closer and yet also further from making it happen.

Are you also sticking around for/playing the Osaka leg of FOM this year?

Hey there, sorry for my late reply.

Hahaha I getcha! That is exactly what I do, only not the e-commerce part. Where are you based? I have played out twice this year. I’m looking for places to go and play and recently it seems like little bespoke breweries like to have a live bi of BGM. If you do get something up together and are near the Tokyo area then please let me know. I want to play out more and more. Finding your voice isn’t easy though. I should know, I’m tone def lol

The gig was amazing. Great people and great vibe! Although that gig you stumbled upon sounds hella fun, there’s nothing like this festival elsewhere in Tokyo. The live performance area was too small though. My wife and kid came and the only place they could get to was the top of the stairs. Luckily, it was in the line of sight to where I was performing so they are in some of the photos while I’m banging away on my machines.

The highlight for me was meeting all these incredible performers and festival goers. Everyone was so friendly.

Ah that’s so cool!
Wish I had known about this festival as I passed through Tokyo early November! Would have made a detour.
