Overbridge for Digitakt II : ETA?

I wish they would just update transfer so that the file management was more robust.

If they add search functions to it, make it easier to move samples around & somehow bring in the loopcloud functionality which allows you to drag & drop samples straight onto tracks or the soundpool, that alone would make the device so much more useful without requiring overbridge.

I know this is dreaming just throwing the idea out in the hopes others agree, in which case, maybe they do it one day.

Just a reminder, it was 2 years from Digi1 release to OB2.0 beta.

Are they really buying Elektron??

Syntakt launched with OB did it not? When DT1 launched OB didnt exist so its understandable, but its been out for many years now so at the very least they should be doing an open beta for the DT2 OB.

Yes they do. I wouldn’t have bought the DTII without Overbridge’s promise to export the 16 separate tracks. Elektron said in May that there was a beta version that worked, and four months later, zero news. This is not OK.

Never buy something on promises of future updates, only on what is available for you right now. They literally don’t owe you shit. I understand this is obnoxious and upsetting but you won’t make that mistake again will you?

difference is that DT2 is a whole new platform, unlike syntakt, that’s why I assume it’s harder.

also, let’s be real, if elektron releases unready overbridge the criticism will go through the roof.

also, I’m not sure how people feel elektron owns them something, what I see is:

currently not available, if OB was make or break feature for me I would not buy it and wait until it’s ready.

Overbridge for the Digitakt II is definitely a grey area. I fully subscribe to the idea of not buying devices based on where the features may go in the future. However, I also feel that my expectations were set by previous comms by Elektron regarding it. Even though they didn’t set any dates or anything.

Have they broken a promise or missed an explicit deadline, no of course not. Am I growing increasingly frustrated by its continued absence and impatient for the next software update (which we don’t even know will include it), yeah absolutely. And yes, it’s my own fault for letting my expectations get set. A little bit of light relief from this feeling comes in contributing to a thread called “Overbridge for Digitakt II: ETA”

Let’s face it there’s only 5 types of message to be posted here:

  • When is it coming? Can I have beta?
  • No, beta is closed. We’re under NDA.
  • You shouldn’t expect Overbridge and Elektron can take their sweet time if they like
  • Elektron are pushing it, they had better get it released soon
  • Attempts to apply some pragmatism.

Oh and the final “it’s released” post, I guess. Maybe. One day. Maybe?

Let’s not forgot there’s plenty of other threads littered by people getting frustrated by companies like Roland seemingly orphaning relatively new hardware (SH-4d anyone?) with no software updates to fix quality of life issues, let alone add new features.

This s all very reminiscent of 2017 and 2018, when we were waiting for the first OB for Digi1.

I don’t know dude, maybe I just got used to waiting for so long for updates, the moment I forget about actually waiting on an update it magically shows up usually.
But I still think that buying a product for something that isn’t at the moment is not on the company, but the customer.

The thing I don’t understand is why couldn’t Elektron go with the route of multi channel class compliant audio, I believe the Tracker does this. Why only overbridge? Most people will only use it for streaming multi channel audio in the first place, why bother with having a virtual UI of the box that is right in front of you? Doesn’t that go against the point of having hardware?

When I had the A4 I kinda got it, it was easier to see everything in one place, but IMO you can’t really be more straight forward than the DT.

usb multichannel mode is nice, but overbridge enables to have inputs too, additional to your atm used audio interface, without asio proxies. Its a feature I am waiting for (and of course multitracking).

Digitakt release May 2017
OB2.0 BETA release January 2019
1 year 8 months.
Official OB2 release April 15th 2020.
2 years 11 months.

First beta release was in July 2018. Was just the driver. But still. That’s when I released a video about it

Edit: and in October 2018 the plugin

I do feel like it was kinda implied that it was coming soon. I agree that ‘soon’ is a stretchable term but yeah.

still over a year for beta, digitone users also waited about a year since release, no?
and I assume with the new platform and new track count you can’t just port 1:1, you’d need to rewrite a good portion of the code…

Yes that was the plugin release and the public beta indeed. Before that it was already available though

Right. The plugin. That’s what everyone is waiting for.
I’m not complaining, just pointing out the timeline.
No idea if this new one will take as long. I don’t imagine so, depends how high a priority for them it is I guess.
