I’ll record something for you, I mean it’s not exactly all-in-one but very versatile and most importantly sounds so damn good.
Thank you that is so nice of you, I really appreciate it and I owe you one, mate
I regularly consider returning to the Octatrack, but the fx section is never the reason or actually, to some extent it is, but it’s for the very specific character of the eq and compressor. I never liked the delay and reverb much on the OT. So far, the pull of the blackbox remains as strong as ever, tho
@qlamerand and @spikysimon nevertheless, I appreciate it and will check it out. One should always be ready to re-evaluate the feature list, and I guess stereo is one of those things I could drop if everything else was just spot on. Though I don’t know, then I guess I’d go for a Tonal Recall again if I felt that way, so maybe not, haha the four part delay of the Prophet 12 really gave me a sweet tooth for experimental, multiple delays that are just all over the place.
I will, because BIM is what I immediately think of when reading your description.
There are a lot of other options and that’s what people have been suggesting, but BIM’s filters, limiter, input gain, distortion and lofi settings, lfo options, divisions, and ping-pong options all seem like they’d provide what you’re looking for. You can get a beautiful distorted crunchy delay that turns into the smoothest ambience thanks to the filters. It’s a special delay imo and worth trying.
If you have a MEK then checking out the stereo delay , with the feedback, distortion, output hack and tons of modulation options is going to be rewarding whatever!
Yeah, I feel like when I got mine I was more worried about it not being stereo but then in actual use as long as you have a send on your mixer and don’t lose the dry stereo image it sound really great. When you move it to dry it even does a nice job of layering in some centered saturation. You got the oscilator for some cool lofi ring mod type tricks. Personal thoughts are it is totally worth giving up stereo for what it offers in the haunting dirty delay space. That said BIM is also on my radar.
@circuitghost if you want to post up about a minute of dry stereo audio I could go through a range of processing settings on a strega. I suppose it is a bit of a mute point though if you plan on doing signal processing pre mixer as it would squash everything mono.
Thanks for the offer, I really appreciate it. Maybe I could do just that, and anyone wanting to have a go at it, you’re more than welcome. @Hawk been kind enough to offer some sharing already, so I’d be grateful for any more such opportunities.
I’ll post something in a day or so. Got something being released tomorrow actually, so I need to focus on that first.
Benidub - (mono)
It’s not stereo though afaik
Reviving this topic as I’m currently on a similar journey to find the ultimate delay pedal for this purpose.
OTO Bim seems like the best option, I just wish that the division and the hp/lp filters were not controlled by the active knob.
@circuitghost , would you mind telling which pedal you ended up with?
FWIW you can tweak those and other parameters via MIDI CC messages. The filters aren’t continuously variable though, just stepped through the different settings.
Hey none. I didn’t find anyone that fit my very princess-on-a-pea-bill kind of approach.
I have since been out of the hardware game for some time, sold all my stuff and gone all Logic.
And I have just recently realized I’m now back in the hardware game, but it’s too embarrassing to say, so I’m not ready to share it with other threads on this forum just yet
And likely, my first purchase in this new era of awakening will be a Chase Bliss Onward.
EDIT: Just kidding, back fully on Logic, best thing ever, never going back to hardware.
It’s funny I googled once “chase bliss should do a stereo delay” and the funny AI reply came back saying… they have! Haha. The Reverse Mode C. It was only a limited run so you’d have to look on the used market, but it’s there. It might not be ‘haunting’, but it has some grit settings and looks all round fun.
Two Fairfield Circuitry Meet Maudes (would also say two Electronic Audio Experiment Sendings, but that’s a bit excessive . . . I have one of each and they are both incredible)
I didn’t personally find the Oto Bim to be “lofi” or particularly dirty tbh. It’s a great sounding delay and has a huge amount of character.
For Lofi and dirty the Bastl Thyme+ takes the cake.
Along with the lofi and distortion modes the BIM also got a sample rate reducer mode in the latest firmware, which lets you go super digitally crunchy if that’s your thing.
What about Empress delays?
Has someone some experience with them?
And the little Strymon pedals?
Thanks for the tip! I currently have the source audio collider. I like the tape delay on that one but the repeats sound too dark and the transients are washed out immediately, turning the wet sound quickly into a dark drone sound. I also tested the Boss DD-200 which has a great lay-out, and retains the transients very well, but the tape just doesn’t sound good to my ears (too flat) and you can’t use the time knob when it’s midi synced.
For my purpose it doesn’t need to get very dirty, but ideally it has enough saturation so that the repeats slowly morph over time, and I can turn the delay into either a crispy percussive loop or a smooth pad-like sound.
This preset from the Bim is a good example:
recently i’ve been putting my MS-20 in the feedback loop of a tape delay, getting pretty nice sounds out of it. some modulation on the lp/hp filters makes the feedbacks pretty unpredictable.
you can send notes to the MS-20 with the oscillators turned all the way down to let the delay through rhythmically!
