Polyend Tracker

Doesn’t it have a slide command (FX F and J)? If so, thats the way to go with trackers as it has always been :wink:

Yup. But that is useless when using it as a MIDI sequencer! The sequencer only sends out CC

That kind of slide to wouldn’t work with Midi. Do you work with midi pitch bend often?

I want to use the Tracker as a MIDI sequencer with two very old Akai samplers. They only know Modwheel, aftertouch and pitchbend messages

Bit why would you want pitch bend? If you want microtonality, just make 2 patches which are detuned by 1/4 tone. Else you can program velocity to pitch (in the sampler’s patch). And I am sure the old akais have pitch envelope, too. But why use a tracker with built in sampling (which sounds awesome - I give PT that) and ditch that in favor for hassle with external samplers? I mean, if you go that far, use Ableton or an Amiga with Octamed to midi-thingy the Akais.

Edit Modwheel -> pitch should work, too

I want to control the pitch from within the sequencer or externally, through the Tracker, with a pitchbend(message). The former appears to be impossible. Thus my question: does the Tracker pass through incoming pitchbend messages?

These are dinosaur samplers. They don’t have modern modulation routing possibilities. Aftertouch to filter is pretty much where it ends

Even if it doesn’t you can achieve this with programming velocity to pitch or mod wheel to pitch in your sampler.

Which specific samplers are we talking about?

Modwheel isnt bipolar

Doesn’t need to. Set your desired pitch to 64 and it is.

No because then I have to input a modwheel message on eacht step. Thank you for your suggestions. But I would like to know if it passes through pitchbend. Also for live pitchbend goodness in combination with the Performance sequencer FX

And i am pretty sure i cant route modwheel to pitch on these samplers anyway. But again, thanks for the suggestions

Still don’t know which sampler it is. For S950 this would be the procedure:

And if you want to go old school all the way - why not working as it was done in that time:
S950 + (MPC, Amiga/Octamed or Atari/Notator)?

Oh dear. I appreciate your dedication, but…

The warp is sort of a glide. It is fixed.

I want to use the Tracker. Not an MPC, Octamed, Ableton or a Gameboy.
Thanks

Ok, woukd you tell which sampler it is, even if the only solution would be a midi merge box after the midi out which merges the PT midi with your live pitchbend from a keyboard?

Does anyone know if the Tracker passes through incoming pitchbend messages over the MIDI out?

Thank you!

PS: a MIDI merge unit would indeed be a valid alternative. Thank you.

I read the manual again. It does. There is the M command (+/- 99) which lets you finetune +/- 99 cents (100 cents = 1 semitone). So there would be the pitchbend internally (in addition to the slide commands).

The manual says the M command would work with midi, too. It doesn’t say how. My first guess would be the pitchbend command. But that should be tested.

Do you have a Polyend tracker or do you contemplate about buying one in case it finally looks like it could suit your specific needs?

Anyway, great to know that. DAF-like EBM - and atonal techno here I come

I have one coming

Info: had a black friday impulse buy (Polyend Tracker for 399). It would have been my second unit, which is ok, because I have some of my devices at 2 places.

However, sent it back immediately because it is so much different from my other Polyend Tracker (of the 2nd run which already lost the metal lower part of the case compared to the 1st run):

The new one here had a brushed surface instead of black matte and the jog dial was circularly brushed, too, and it lost that “expensive heavy feeling” of the old one which could be handled with one finger. The new (black friday one) needed thumb and finger because more slippery and unpleasant kind of slightly scratchy resistance.

Happy return. No interest to gain profit from scarcity.

So if anybody of you might want to buy a PT for 399 or less - watch thomann.

Cheers!

Rather refined workflow. Implementation of missing commands (loop). Usable song mode. One click UI (instead of shift for often used functions). AA-battery pack (maybe even snap on for under the device). Chip emulations. And instead of NES-simulation: real protracker and fast tracker emulations  If they wanted to upgrade the hardware, they should switch to midi type A or 5 pin midi and build in a headphone jack and AA battery compartment. Super hardware upgrade would be an aux send with return over the sampling inputs.

That said, I like it as it is (was). I didn’t like the cosmetic changes.

So tracker+ otw i guess

Be great if that is on the cards. Tbh, the og price of the tracker was perfect and I absolutely love mine. It’s the second most creative box I’ve ever bought and I found the workflow to be incredibly intuitive.

They will always have my love for this.

A shame they’re nearly breaking the internet with the Play though. I bought one, twice, but to me it’s almost the opposite of a tracker and very uninspiring in my hands.
