Recommend a good rompler

Very nice, @djadonis206 ! A little darker than your other vignettes (of which I’m also a fan) on the TR-8S and DJS1000.

Is it just the Triton you are marshalling here?

K4 has some lush stuff going on. A lot of classic Brothomstates mods sampled this.

I found the K4 really came alive when run through an analog filter. It was great for strings IMHO.

Thanks man!!! Appreciate it. Yes, all Triton and 8S

Before work this morning I dabbled with it some more. Totally digging that old sound

Some more 8S and rompler life

It took me like 10 minutes to pull this demo together??? Crazy how fast the 8S is. and with the rompler??

@djadonis206 Can you describe your setup for these? What are you using to sequence the rompler(s)?

a used Roland xp80 is moderately priced with a quality rompler engine

Figured some stuff out with the MPC Live and Grid mode. Hooked up the Triton and recorded a little jam

Prophet X :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

the M1 is good, but it has not so many preset sounds onboard. i think it’s just 128 or so. you need these expension cards to increase the sound library, which are quite rare and expensive.

in the last year, i owned a Korg TR Rack for a short time which is an excellent Rompler Synth. it’s not expandable, but you get more than a thousend sound patches and nearly 600 waveforms. even the drum kits are outstanding, of high quality and anything else than the standart. BUT…it’s a pain in the butt to edit the TR from the front face because you’ll find no data wheel on the face plate, just a few small buttons. the display is small, but the font characters are at least big enough, to edit some basic things such as effects, the routing, to select patches for the multi-mode and so forth. you need a soft editor to create your own sounds without clicking through the menues. but as a pure preset sling, for Synth orientated sounds, the TR is perfect.

now i own a Roland jV 2080. i love it. you can edit everything over the big display fast enough. i have a great editor for it, but actually i don’t need it, because it even makes fun to program the JV 2080 over the display. the amount of sound presets are not as much as the Korg TR, but it has more on board than the previous units of the JV/JD series. the 2080 is also expandable via 8 slots for sound boards incl. a card slot on the front.

Which editor do you use? Is it free?

I have a 2080, but have never been bothered to try to program my own sounds on it. I’ve been using the presets and they’re okayish, but maybe a good editor would encourage me to learn to program my JV.

yeah it’s free. the editor bases on the CTRLR engine, but it’s standalone. comes also with a x32 and x64 VST plugin so that you can edit and automate all paramters in the DAW. but the editor only works with Windows btw. you can get it here: http://ctrlr.org/jv-xp-editor-for-roland-jv1080-jv2080-xp30-xp50-and-xp80-series-synthesizers/

I like the rompler side of the Yamaha MODX. It has the XA (Expanded Articulation) that Yamaha first ported to the Motif XS as a modified version of the Tyros Super Articulation.

somewhat relevant to this thread, and generally just a really nice and relaxing 3-minute watch

Also thank you so much @MDMnM for posting that editor, my 2080 is set up on the other side of the room so it never sees much use. Looks like I can just use it like a VST now which is amazing.

i really like this greenstuff all over the place.

I see some people picking up old romplers these days and I’m currently looking into the TR Rack myself. I don’t have anything that does strings, piano, horns, etc…would this be a good choice? Can I get some nice sounds out of it? Or would I be better off looking into a vst?

I have a Roland XP 50 I no longer use due to issues, so I am familiar with the Rompler type of sound.

I typically make ambient, glitchy type songs with break beat style drums. Thanks !

I have a M1R EX and a wavestation SR. That triton rack sounds like it could be a nice addition as well! Those Korg romplers have that motor city sound all over them no doubt.
