RIP Brian McBride (1/2 Stars of the Lid)

The amount of inner calm and peace in me for which he is responsible is beyond measure. Some of the most gorgeous music ever made.

Gone way too soon. I love SotL. Bummer to hear this.

Ah, sad; I always enjoyed their records (I have a few CDs knocking around) without ever being a serious fan or anything.

I was hospitalized last week and spent every night falling asleep to Stars of the Lid. This music is healing, this news is heartbreaking.

it’s been eternity since ATROD, some of the most beautiful and unique music of any time, and now it’s eternity forever… way too early

This is sad but such beautiful music. Also sad that it often takes an obituary to find out about a person like all the amazing debating stuff I had no idea about.

Getting a tribute like:

“Our program is forever indebted to his legacy. He revolutionized argument style in our activity and taught a generation of students how to think critically.”

Along with being one of the great composers of a generation is quite something.

This has hit me much harder than I expected. Gone far too soon. I love those SOTL records and some of the most spellbinding and hauntingly beautiful gigs I’ve ever experienced.

There were times when this music was all I would listen to, endlessly looping. Heavenly.
He’s gone back home to the space between the notes, we’ll all meet up there someday.

I am trying not to cry right now. Some of the best writing I have done for the past 20 years has had SOTL playing softly in the background.

Only just heard about Brian’s passing.

Was just listening to The Rain Dogs and looked up SOTL to see what they’re up to.

Now I know. :frowning:

It would be lovely if Adam was able to offer a release of what might have been in the pipeline, but if not then I feel there is an eternity of listening in their existing material.

Life changing albums for me. Train journeys, bus journeys and walks through the city were never quite the same. Like music for a controlled nervous breakdown, an opening of the heart.

May he travel well…
