Roland Gaia 2

Didn’t see this coming at all.

I don’t think anyone did!

Cool, but why would you name it after the second shittest synth you ever made?

Also, does this look like that UDO synth because that UDO synth looks like a Roland, or does it just look like that UDO synth?

I was going to ask what was the worst but there’s so many contenders, 90% from their early 2000s throw-anything-at-the-wall-and-see-what-sticks era.

I know some people liked the Gaia as it was at least an interesting teaching tool for learning synthesis. But the actual engine was terrible.

Looks like a Minilogue designed by UDO.

Yes because Superman 2 was far better than Superman 1. :joy:

Does look a good synth though.

Didn’t the oscillators turn out to be single cycle samples?

I hate the colors of this design, looks cheap

Huh. This one makes me feel dead inside.

Alright, I’ve got to try and get past the name and the memories of the past Gaia. I’m sure it’s lovely.

And a bit of Radias as well

This was my first synth, it’s actually insane that I didn’t quit the hobby there and then

I came so close to buying one, got a Korg ER1 instead, never looked back.

So many knobs, looks kind of cool. I wish synths like this would have endless encoders with LEDs though, stresses me out to think how out of sync all the knobs will be when you load a preset lol. I’m sure cost is a good reason why that’s not the case.

I’ll second, third, and fourth this

Indeed.

This feels very Korg to me for some reason. Looks like a Minilogue and acts like a Modwave. But I’m a total Roland fan boy so I’m reserving judgement until I make it through the Loopop video.

Yeah it looks so Korg, the UI is very similar to the Wavestate etc. Not that that is a bad thing but the inspiration is clear! Looks like there are some nice UI touches such as the “hold menu and touch a control to access that area’s submenu”.

Despite the lack of knobs, I think the HydraSynth is more my thing though. Sounds like the modulation is pretty basic on this.

this.

Interesting synth. A lot of people would assume it was something new from Korg at a glance.

Always good to see plenty of hands on control over lots of menu diving.
