Since they probably reused the engine found in the Jupiter X, this video might give a hint on how close it will get to the original…
The 5080 can probably sound the same but it might take effort to get it to match some of the presets you hear from the boutique.
So ultimately buying the boutique is an expensive way to save time if you want those specific sounds. And saving time can be worth spending ££
I’m sure I have lots of gear that could make the same sounds but much quicker turning on a 101 to get nice bass than turning on another thing which needs an hour of tweaking to get the same sound.
Hello,
I would like to have the user opinion, from Roland boutique. It’s about the arpeggiator, and its possibilities.
Is arpeggiator is the same in all Boutique synth or not? And, How many patterns are in the arpeggiator mode on JD 08?
Thanks
These two boutiques have USB-C
A few audio examples of my time with the MKS-70 (bitimbral JX8P rack), that make me super interested in the JX-08
(Yep, it can do acid)
It’s a super versatile synth once you get around its quirks.
What about the 101 isn’t doing it for you / what’s the appeal of the JD over the 101 for you? I’m also in the market for classic Roland sounds and considering the 101, JD, or getting an old XV or JV.
What about the 101 didn’t work out for you? Seems like it’d be perfect for a full library of romper presets no?
Asking as I love Jv/XV/JD sounds and not sure this tiny boutique form factor would be worth it, vs a rack unit and nice controller, or the broader groovebox functionality of an mc101
I had a JU-06A, for some reason I was using a MicroFreak more, but I did like it.
Trying to decide between the JD-08, or the JX-08, I am leaning more towards the JX-08.
The 20 voice polyphony, and the presets so far seen on youtube. Impressive.
I just put the JX-08 on pre order, sounds great !
Canceled JD. JX still on order. Delivery expected…31.12.2021.
I did not say any of that.
The main appeal is all those sliders compared to limited synth editing onboard the 101.
I would probably keep my 101 regardless of whether I get the JD or JX. The 101 is 4 part multi-timbral and 128 voice poly - very useful for sequencing.
Just on time for your New Year’s Eve Performance.
I have to admit I like the JX8P look
I‘m interested in the JX if it convincingly does some of the classic roland sounds I like so much.
It looks great, the advanced sequencer features and bitimbrality are really nice steps forward in the boutique range.
The jd08 (and jd800) sounds I heard so far are not my cup of tea.
I heard some awesome bass sounds in demos of the jx3p. Was the jx8p similar in that regard?
AFAIK the JX 8P was better suited for bass sounds due to his solo and unison play modes.
Here some German well written articles about the three, including audio demos:
JX3P
JX8P
JX10

Nice. Thanks!
Here’s a good article with audio examples for the JX8P in English: https://greatsynthesizers.com/en/review/roland-jx-8p-a-good-all-rounder/
I recommend the PG8X VST if you want to hear what it’s capable of; it’s the reason why I sold my JX8P.
Stumbled upon this JD-800 vid by Katsunori Ujiie. It’s funny how every single JD-08/JD-800 demo video I’ve found features that guitar lead preset. But nice sound demos as one would expect from Ujiie-sensei
Around 1:45 he shows Palette sliders
Around 2 min. he gets into sound tweaks with the sliders
Around 8 min. he gets into playing the sliders again
The bitimbrality is amazing, you even get separate effects (except a shared reverb), separate LFOs, separate envelopes. The possibilities are nearly endless, unless I’ve misunderstood something here. Does anyone know if a patch saves both timbres into a save slot? This isn’t clear from the annoying online manual.
I agree, it sounds like a cheap 90s commercial and I struggle to see how I would ever use that sound in a song unless I played in a band on a ferry between Sweden and Finland.
