I guess you could get around this by resampling that hi-hat for the different variations? Bit fiddly I suppose.
I’ve gone the other way!
When it was announced I was completely nonplussed, buuut I have zero samplers and I know the other Aira compacts already, but their duties are already covered by stuff I already have so they were just fun fluff.
I guess they really got me again. A sampler novice that loves Dibiase and DOOM’s music and plays the Zelda and Chill videos while cooking dinner.
Shoot. Now I’m just hoping it arrives before I start traveling. About to have a LOT of idle time.
It’s interesting the rollout here seems slower than other places, Roland being a Japanese company and all. Maybe they know their bigger audience is away.
I’m not in hurry. It seems the first batch on Thomann was sold out on pre-orders, because it now shows availability in 6-8 weeks. And a shop in my country shows 15% more the price. So I will probably wait unless they put the price in line… I have Digitakt (1), so i am not samplerless Burt really looking forward to a portable fun device. (I was also contemplating old Yamaha QY70, but that is obviously different story).
Anyway, hope you will get your in time…
Oh you couldn’t be more wrong if you tried harder and had backup - for me that is. The workflow is not only there for me, I can effortlessly flow and create with those machines as if all the obstacles of the universe have melted back into the simulation.
But, we must take into account that I am extremely talented and no gear I have ever used has hindered me in any way from making my music.
This sampler, when it gets here in about 8 hot hours, will be no different. It will be easy for me to figure out because I’m super super smart and computers love me.
One thing I’m wondering is about settings for samples recorded in step sample mode. Do settings get applied to everything on that one pad, or can each individual sample on the 64 sub steps of that pad be edited individually? For instance, if you put your drum hits on one single pad, can you assign mute groups to only certain steps, and not all of them? I’m guessing you can because the manual says you have an insane number of mute groups (128!).
I’ll catch you up real quick - Roland released an entry level sampler, but it sucks even before arrival because they didn’t put all of their premier options, storage capacity., and better screen from their other more expensive products and sell it for $220.
Total failure, anyone who bought this thing is an idiot because how I say to do music, and what gear I say is acceptable is the only acceptable approach for every other human that exists or ever will.
Edit - the yellow underbelly is kinda of nice. I’ll refrain from complete Roland belittlement for a moment to admit they got one thing and one thing only correct - yellow underbelly.
Otherwise, I’m obviously waaaaaaaay smarter than the whole Roland corporation because I would have done it differently. Sucks for them not having me.
Then I’m an idiot.
A happy idiot.
Yeah, shoot it’s a nice color too. Like a big Lego.
A big sweet Roland flavoured lollipop
Still got until Thursday for me… prepared to back it up and create a clean slate to play with…
Have fun with yours!
I have pre ordered from Thoman. Not that I mind waiting a few weeks but what are peoples experiences with pre orders from them? Are the times shown usually fairly accurate ?
Yeah, still doesn’t ship for another week and a half in Japan. I doubt I’ll have the patience to do the nine step backup before I clear all the samples/patterns off of it. Maybe I should just to learn the process.
It seems the factory content is downloadable, so no need to back this manually…
Also it seems there is a version 1.02 of the firmware, however maybe it is that one already loaded in new machines…
i can’t really find this in the manual… is it possible to set a different loop point than the start of a sample? like i want to play a sample starting at 0 and then loop between 80 and 100% instead of 0 and 100?
… so if I’m understanding, which I generally don’t about anything music related, you can have a sample, make it loop, you can have its start point be separate from its loop point?
Find a record/recording of some melody into a drum break, that’s my intro vibe into the beat looping. Then I can fly off into granular cinematic fairy land.
This will be fun. Don’t be jealous, I’m off work today, have roughly 4 hours for FedEx to deliver.
Life goals - start a little blank notebook of cliff note shorthand reminders, which hopefully will blossom into a mini spiral bound laminated visual reference homebrew pirate manual. And figure out how to turn it on, update it, transfer files, blank it out, and load/sample a juicy drum kit or two, then finally sample something.
Yep!
For any one feature that Roland may have omitted - wether out of pure evil and gatekeeping or some other less ominous factor(s) - I will find forgiveness in my heart for the features it does provide in it’s current state.
I will not blame Roland if I find the experience dissatisfying or if I am in any way personally harmed by its horrid design and functionality.
I will stare deeply into the mirror of time and place that blame squarely at my own feet. I cannot remember if it’s the Japanese seppuku or haiku, but I swear to perform the one appropriate for my own bad choices in gear purchases, if it comes to that.
I haven’t owned any granular synthesis hardware samplers. Anyone have any links to good videos to watch for inspiration?
