Yeah this is best forum I’ve been a part of.
I’ve noticed over the years that most threads about the SP-404 seem to have the most musical output posted compared to any other piece of gear. That speaks volumes about the 404 and why peeps gravitate towards it.
For me, the 404 represents less think-y and more feel-y.
Instant soundtrack for this morning view I’m having : fog in the valley, shiny yellow sun trying to halo through.
Love it.
Hi, is it possible to modulate the delay time with a random lfo?
You can modulate the delay time with an external CC
thanks for the devonwho shoutout too, just checked him out and i connected right away!
so can anyone help me?
my use case for getting a 404mk2 is that i made hundreds of jams in lockdown and want somewhere to load them all up to and be able to mix and match them - is the dj mode good for this? please don’t advise me octatrack…been there many times and gave up - wondering if the 404 will do it
No idea about DJ mode but I sample patterns from the DN and jam with them on the 404. Sometimes nothing productive but loads of fun regardless!
cheers - i’m thinking of loading hundred of two/three minute tracks i made and using dj mode to mix them if that’s possible
I know a few cats here using DJ mode with much luck! I’m sure they will chime in soon!
todays beat! more of a contemplative one i guess, still crunchy and bassy. liked playing around with a different style of drum pattern in the second half. all the synths are from the mc-101
Has anyone any good place to get samples, aside from Splice, Loopmasters and the likes?
I’m looking for the best Splice alternative - same price range, but with a better ethos as a company.
If anyone has a recommendation, I’d be over the top!
Cheers
I ripped my Native Instruments Expansions. I own most of them as part of my Komplete Collectors edition. They’re wav files and there are plenty of good samples. Drawback here is you have to buy the whole pack.
And Samples From Mars for vintage drum machines samples. They’re crazy cheap on sales.
I recommend The Drum Broker.
Reading about your process was cool. Thanks.
Can you save fx settings with a project yet? Hard keeping track of everything they’ve added!
I’m gonna start ripping off the few Native packs I have and, to that extend, any .wav file I can get my hands on. Nice one.
Just visited them.
I think I’m gonna pull the trigger on their latest pack.
Fresh af.
Thanks. I totally missed this!
The SP404 mk2 has 10 banks of 16 pads, so you’re going to hit a limit of 160 tracks max for DJ mode…
That said, yeah you can absolutely play tracks up to 16 minutes long stereo, or 32 minutes long mono (this is undocumented, but if you convert them to mono it works). If you’re ignoring beat matching, you can just cue up and play tracks no problem, and use the control knobs to fade between tracks, drop in/out effects/etc…
If you want to do some beat juggling that is in time… You’ll need to set the BPM for all of your tracks, and cue points and all that… it’s a bit of work, but for sure but it does work.
Honestly, my advice is to just load up a couple of tracks and just try it… it’s not too hard and you’ll get the hang of most of the features pretty quickly.
Beyond that… the mk2 can also play pads that are not assigned to tracks, and you can also play patterns in sync with the tracks. So it is worth the time investment to set BPM and all that fun stuff because just staying in the box, you can definitely do a lot… though with all the button combos perhaps… too much sometimes
+1 for Samples from Mars. They are more focused on superbly recorded instrument samples than loops and breaks, but if you grab one of their bundles on sale they’re impossible to beat.
