Syntakt Mac standalone app output audio only via Macbook speakers and not headphones anymore

Hi, I used to be able to connect the Syntakt with the Macbook Syntakt app, and have the audio going through my headphones plugged into the Macbook. Did several time so I could follow up some Youtube tutorial while listening to what I was doing on the machine.

Now it doesn’t work anymore, the sound comes out only via the Macbook speakers, even tho the headphones are plugged in.

Also, when it did work, increasing and reducing the volume from the Mac keyboard would affect the main volume as well. Now it does nothing, and the main volume coming out from the Mac speakers is affected only by the monitor gain in the Syntakt app.

Uninstalled Overbridge and reinstalled again 2 times. I remember when something like this happened, I would turn off the Syntakt, shut down the Syntakt app, open it up again, and only after that turning the Syntakt on. That, usually restored the audio trough the headphones. Not anymore.

For the life of me I can’t figure this out.

Works fine in Ableton tho. Any clue?

This is probably a Mac system preferences thing than a syntakt app thing. Check your sound settings in system prefs

Thanks, but is a bit vague as a suggestion. Of course I checked the sound preferences. Nothing in there solved it. Also, the music comes through the Mac speakers but if open a Youtube video the sounds comes throught the headphones.

I don’t use mac so I can’t be specific but when I have any daw open my computer detects the audio output device when the program opens but if I change that at any point during, it gives me a fit and I have to manually change the output device to the desired destination.

I think that’s what christian means by system preferences, it’s whatever is being set as the default device within either your system settings or if a daw is open, your daw settings. Maybe that’s why it works fine in ableton, because of the output device configuration.

Sorry I can’t be more specific though, but I know sometimes I’ll be listening through monitors and try to switch to headphone monitoring (through the computer headphone jack, not through an audio interface or elektron device) and it will give me a audio device not found error, at which point I’m reminded of this quirk and have to switch the audio output device in the open daw to the system audio in order to get headphone playback.

If your monitoring device is the same device (so your speakers were hooked up through syntakt as interface, and also your headphones were monitoring through syntakt headphone out) then I assume it would work as intended (hearing out of the headphones) but not with the keyboard response to volume, but to me it sounds like you’re talking about a system audio device ie the mac speakers and native “apps” like being able to use the mac keyboard volume etc.

That’s why I would say despite lack of mac knowledge, I would also think this points at a system settings type issue but maybe as configured by the daw like how mine is, otherwise if the daw is not open, I’d think somewhere in your audio device settings menu for the mac system.

Did you try the Audio/MIDI Settings menu in Overbridge?
It has Output combo box. There you can choose “External headphones “ as output

Where is this setting? I only see this in the OB settings panel

It is in Syntakt App. Not in Overbridge Control Panel

Brilliant. I didn’t even know that setting where there. That solved the issue. Thanks so much.
