that does make total sense…
but I think if you look closely that the majority of the friction folks are just as enthralled with the machine… everyone I know loves it including myself
that may be true, there is lots of love. but i do believe…i have found my soul mate…and he doesnt need to change for anyone!!
I think it’s probably safe to assume that any idea we have for a feature request, the dev has already considered it ten times over, and there is a reason why it’s not included, whether that be conceptually, or the price point they are developing for.
I’m very much in the camp of not wanting to edit my samples much, nor do I really need slicing. But there are functions like glide and arps that are important to me. It all depends on individual needs, like if you’re playing instruments (with glide and arps) into the sampler as opposed to using the sampler itself for these functions.
I jumped on the Lofi 12XT as it has a few things I wish my 404mkii had-- glide, arp, and a huge octave range. The only thing that I was hesitant about on the XT was the screen, but I recently gave-in to the fact that I need readers for everyday use anyway, so it’s no big deal at all.
Anybody replaced any of the buttons? I found some cool arcade type buttons that I think might be better then the keyboard type keys.
This machine lends it self to many happy accidents. I had programmed a melody that sounded kinda shit, but then I accidentally changed its sound to a crash cymbal and it made the whole track. I’ve started to edit my tracks directly in Avid Media Composer. This is what was left of a 20 minute jam…
Tbh just using it as a drum machine has changed my view on it…Its got something with the groove where it just sounds funky and correct. And keeping it as a drum machine replaces the urge to want more and more updates - it does the drums pretty well…Atm im using the KO on drums and the new Sonicware XT on everything else (as it has the LFOs, poly etc) - good team
thats my main use for it as well! all the best grooves ive come up with were always random finger drumming happy accidents made on the ko2 between the hours of 10pm-1am lol. one of my favs that i stumbled upon while trying to perform a finger drumming shuffle groove in 6/8 turned into this more 12/8 tumble hip hop afrocuban esq groove from this track, this drums fade in slowly in the first 30-40seconds or so.
your music makes me wanna vacation so bad, i need palm trees and sand and long sunsets with these grooves!! great stuff as always dude
shucks you are too kind. appreciate you!
also take a vacation! my music commands you to do so!
Just got mine in and spent a few hours with it. While I like many things about it, there are some that seem like a step back from the og PO. The current system of pattern switching makes it unusable in a live setting. (Unless I am missing out on how to select patterns and have them switch at the beginning of the next loop.) I knew the speaker was not good, but I had no idea it was this bad. I started building a loop and there was no bass drum to be heard. This was made worse by TE’s choice of default sound for the bass drum. Something more clickey might have come through enough to build a pattern. The unit feels really fragile. Mine arrived with two of the color rings at the base of the knobs being loose. One was actually sliding around in the packaging. I first thought my unit arrived missing three of the push on knobs. During shipping they had come out of the trey and was floating around in the packaging. When I fought to get the inner sleeve of the packaging to slide out the knobs hit the floor. This may be the worst packaging ever. I don’t know how much they paid the Ali estate to use his picture on the box, but that money would be better used to improve the packaging.
Overall: I’m happy that I bought it, mostly to satisfy my curiosity. It is fun to take anywhere and make a beat, but only with headphones. It is easy to learn and use. I especially appreciate the clear labeling. I get really frustrated with products like the Syntakt which has dark red print on a black background that I find very hard to read. This has none of that. Would I recommend it to anyone? For now I will hold off until I see if they add pattern chaining and implement a way to have patterns change at the beginning of a loop. I have 12 little PO’s tossed into a little plastic box. When I want to use one I dig it out of the pile and play it. Even with their exposed circuits they seem to be better built than the EP-133. I want to see how it holds up over time before I recommend it to someone. Right now, if I had to choose between the 133 or the Model Samples I would chose the MS. When they release more products in this line I will probably hold off until pattern chaining is implemented and I see a useful way to MIDI them together for a performance.
you can set it so scene changes occur at the end of the current bar as opposed to end of current tic (settings SEQ → SCN → BAR), you can select scenes out of order by holding MAIN and typing in the scene number
when it comes to the speaker, it seems its a personal preference. i like the character and the crunch when pushing it.
I must be doing something wrong. Maybe it is the way I am selecting patterns, but I only know one way to select them. Anyway, I went into the setting menu and it was already on BAR but I selected it anyway and hit Enter. Nothing changed. Changed it to Tic, same. Changed it back to BAR same. Below are pictures of setting it to BAR, and what the main screen looks like. I have two patterns, A.01 and A.02. One has 8th note hi-hats and the other 16th note, making it easy to tell when the change occurs. I also slowed the BPM down during the test. When I hold A and tap 1, then release A it plays pattern 1. When I hold A and tap 2, when I release A it immediately jumps to pattern 2. If I time it to change on the 3rd beat, it changes on the 3rd beat. It does not wait until the 1st beat to change. Should I be entering pattern changes in a different way? The only other way I change patterns is the hold A and use the - + keys. Same thing. Hopefully I am just doing something stupid.
ooooh okay, so the tic/bar changes only occur during SCENE changes. i tend to approach my SCENES as if they were PATTERNS (in the digitakt type sense). pattern changes within groups are always instant i believe. typing in the numbers only works for scene changes as well.
i know some people like to have multiple unique patterns within one group to do live changes within one scene, i have found that to be more of a challenge and more cumbersome than i need. having each scene have its own individual pattern per group (Scene 1 contains A1, B1, C1, D1, Scene 2 contains A2, B2, C2, D2, etc.) has made it much easier for my mental map
I’m 47 and the same haha
I could be wrong and getting confused with another piece of hardware but I have a vague recollection that it might be possible to choose between immediate pattern change or change at the end of the pattern.
it’s either the KO2 or the Circuit Tracks (those are the only two sequencing boxes I own and I read it in the manual for either/or
its confusing with the ep133 because of the nomenclature they use.
it goes SCENES -> GROUPS -> PATTERNS
you can make SCENE changes occur either immediately or the end of the bar. changing the SCENE will change all the PATTERNS nested within.
I wonder if not all units have the same speaker. Mine sounds horrible, end of. Like a cheap radio alarm clock from 1991. Considering the plethora of highly affordable portable speakers with 3.5mm jack inputs on the market, almost all of which will no doubt sound far superior, I’d have been much happier with an SD slot or something in its place. Certainly once the unit is out of warranty I’d want to replace it with something that doesn’t sound like a kazoo.
i should really put a disclaimer on all of my comments about the speaker and say that i blew out the speakers in my first car and really appreciated the character it added to the music
When I was a teen and playing in punk/post hardcore bands, we recorded on 8 track cassette recorders. We always pushed it in the red because it just sounded better. So, I relate.
