Tempera: a granular instrument

Yes, I posted feature requests on main #Tempera thread, but its a very active thread so soon vanishes, be good to have a dedicated thread I think!

By the way, Beta 6 just dropped- its very active development!

  • Fixed a bug where the +- polarity switch incorrectly required holding the round :white_circle: button to adjust (a bug introduced by Step LFO)
  • New/changed there’s now a new setting in <:Settings:1213121086070456330> called “Emitter edit selects”. As discussed over in <#1110601735497597070> , when enabled, when you Edit an emitter to adjust its parameters, that emitter is also automatically selected for placement. For many people this will hopefully eliminate a common source of annoyance where we’re editing an emitter, place one on the grid but a different one is placed not intentionally. **The default value is YES ** so if you prefer the previous behavior please set it as you like.
  • Improved the modulator Target/Size workflow: the Size/Target switch is now:
    1. Common for all modulators
    2. Stored along with a canvas
    3. By default set to Target rather than Size

I hope Beetlecrab adds MIDI CC output for the emitters as well. Being able to motion record all of the grain parameters would be amazing.

On one of the early videos it was mentioned that it may be possible to make the sensors on the grid velocity/pressure sensitive!

the discord is where you want to ask these questions. they’re very responsive

They’re on there :]

And yes aftertouch is being worked on right now! They have been testing and working on it off and on since last year sometime, but now they said it’s one of the main focus to get going! So hopefully soon

The motion recording might switch to using CCs so that you can record multiple Emitters. You’d have to remap them elsewhere. What you propose would be great, but I think it’s a tad out of scope from what I’ve seen.

The firmware updates, and the overall functionality convinced me to pick one up.

Wanted to try it with my Linnstrument yesterday and and realised it didn’t work anymore. :sob:
Linnstrument USB port fucked.
Soldering time. Waiting for the replacement part. Out of warranty.

Will try with Hydrasynth Explorer I should receive these days. I guess Tempera is poly aftertouch…

Maybe Tempera will become my mini Linnstrument ?

Doh. Beetlecrab released the Tempera Mini !
I think I will send my Tempera back…

Impressive specs for the Mini !

The Audio Engine: Optimizing for Efficiency

The original Tempera supports 4096 simultaneous grains; Tempera MINI, in contrast, delivers a refined experience with exactly 1 grain. This singular grain receives the full attention of the synthesis engine, ensuring the highest possible quality per grain.

I posted my first bug report in Discord.

I think there is a problem with REC MONITOR EFFECTS SEND.
With LINE IN MONO and INSTRUMENT souces, the signal seems to be send to left channel only.
I think it should be sent to both channels.

Side notes, having values for GAIN would help, if you want to reproduce perfect settings with some gear.

And change display for SOURCE slection : GAIN is still written, I think it is confusing.

And it was confirmed super fast right!

Man I just bought the original. I can’t believe it is already outdated abandonware. Thankfully I was able to get a second mortgage on my home so I should be able to finance no problem. I just don’t understand why they didn’t release this one first and how they can treat loyal customers like this. The MINI is going to be the centerpiece of my setup. I have been waiting for a product like this for 30+ years. I think it is going to streamline my music making experience to the max. Need to think about what kind of USB-C cable I will use though to ensure the best possible experience. Anyone have any experience here?

By the way, I just had a thought, is there a USB hub that could support say, 64 of these? I would ideally line them up in an 8x8 grid. Thoughts???
