My 488mkii has this problem -
sounds like easy/cheap parts/fix but still beyond my own skill set to do it myself without likely breaking things even further…
Anyone know of a UK place that does this kind of stuff?
Or anyone with the skills themselves want to have a go? In return for £ or a couple of months use of the 488?

By way of a cheeky free bump and a possible (if this doesn’t work out) option for @callofthevoid I thought i’d flag to the incoming audience that I could be tempted by sensible offers (PM only unless this thread is spent) for this broadly similar offering from Fostex, it’s the 380s (this ain’t mine (below), it’s boxed mint for over a decade, and was primarily used for a mixer, so the tape side is really light use from new)
I’d struggle to get around to committing to trade unused things were it not for these reminder moments (though I now have a sneaky desire to explore it as a tape plugin 
… it has Dolby s and nice sweepable eq iirc and I have loads of unopened quality metal tapes)
[ If you want me to remove this from your thread it’s no problem, I will oblige ] … I’m testing the water here (also UK, btw, these are both large beasts to pack up, need to unpack mine to test it of course)

Edit - never seen that deck before so I’ll do some reading/google on it. Looks pretty sweet tho, guessing one of their last production models.

… I best decide if I’m up for the trauma before becoming too much of a trade tease … to call me a hoarder would be quite an understatement, but downsizing is most definitely a commitment … I think one of the last things I ever sold (regrettably) was my beloved 1st analog (and Roland’s last too btw) (that morphed into the TR626 (also boxed away) back in the day when MIDI showed up)
