I’m new to Elektron and a returning hardware user, after many many years working in the box.
I’ve got a DT ordered and looking at ways to intergrate it into my work flow. I currently use Maschine Studio to create and Logic Pro to finish / mix etc.
What I’m looking for is any tips or ideas for using DT with MS. As the they both have midi in and out, am I right in thinking I could sequence stuff in MS via DT and vice versa? Also I’m presuming I can sync them to play together etc?
Any tips or tricks and ideas for how to best use them together would be much appreciated.
Recent Maschine updates have greatly improved Maschines MIDI capability and workflow. Im not so sure about the Digitakt controlling Maschine, but Maschine controlling Digitakt is definitely workable. You should be able to build your patterns in Digitakt and then trigger them from Maschine in time with any arrangements you have made there. With the recently added lock feature in Maschine you can do cc morphing too, I tried with a Volca when the lock feature was added and the results were good!
I think Maschine and DT are probably a match made in heaven. Maschine works well as midi clock slave (you can control clock-offset) and the DT most likely has a very stabile midi clock output.
However… I’m curious what happens if you have DT as midi clock master, Maschine as slave and at the same time let the 8 midi tracks on the DT send notes to 8 vst-instruments in Maschine. There got to be some audio-, processing- and midi-latency coming knocking on your door for sure. Trying it out is the only way to find out probably.
Personally I’m a bit skeptical about OverBridge, was a disaster with the A4 and AR back in the day it was released. Gave it another go when OB was updated but it never got it working in Cubase and/or Maschine. Ableton Live was another story, there I could actually get the OB sync and audio streaming to work properly.
Yeah that’s what I’m hoping for. The DT sequencer looks really cool and it’d be ace if that could control sounds in Maschine.
Shame what your saying about OB, hopefully they get their shit together with it as the concepts great, though I currently sync stuff with Maschine and then record it onto a pad via a send on my desk. So I’ll probably be using that method anyway until OB is released for DT.
Well… Turns out I was running a beta version of OverBridge back then. Sent a support ticket to Elektron on the 17:th of July, 2015 and the response was basically “it’s a beta you’re using, try the next one”. Today, looking at the OverBridge section of the Elektron site there’s a Cubase logo there.
Yeah, I’ve just had a look myself and it looks fully compatible now with all major DAW’s and plugin types. Let me know if you use it again and how you get on. Cheers.
