Value proposition of two used Octatrack MKIIs?

Is there no picture for the sales ad which shows the bottom of the machine? Only for the top or front?

You can’t always tell from the photo if the resolution is poor, but if you zoom in on a picture of the sticker underneath sometimes you can read the date. As far as the seller who doesn’t respond consistently, that’s always a little frustrating but a common story unfortunately.

Anyway, that is a top deal…price range 800e for MK2. Golden price rn, everything under should be inspected in person, if possible ofc

No, every perspective except the bottom can be seen in the photos. But I will ask the dealer.

I know the stickers you are referring to. I also have them on my other Elektron machines.

Let’s see when I’ll get an answer

I had an mk1 and mk2 at the same time. sold the mk2. Sometimes consider buying a used cheap mk1 as an extra. I have no worries about things going wrong. Worst case, in my opinion, would be a loose encoder which I’d hope I could manage to fix myself.

I think I also like the mk1 look and feel a bit more.

That’s very interesting. Today an offer was posted on the second-hand market on which i saved a search for the keyword octatrack and was notified. Someone wanted to swap his/her MKII for an MKI because of the look.

I would not have thought that there would be so much interest in older models. It’s nice to see how tastes differ

if youre willing to buy from sweden you should look here, a lot cheaper than 800EUR

Thank you for mentioning the date of manufacture. The seller of the ‘newer’ device got in touch earlier and I almost went to pick it up. Until …

I found out, that the device was manufactured in February 2022. I can’t imagine that it was ‘only’ in use for 6 months and was otherwise in a warehouse. I think this eliminates the option that the device would have a warranty from Elektron regardless of the dealer, which for me would no longer justify the current price.

At the same time, the other seller has generously increased the price, which I find a bit uncool. But well, I guess it should not work out this weekend.

Yes, I would agree that the advantage of purchasing the one that we thought was “newer” (while it is a bit newer) is no longer $250 worth of newer, in my opinion. I’m glad you got some confirmation before taking action, and you’re ultimately the one who deserves credit for following up on it regardless, because many people are impulsive and would not put enough thought into it.

Hopefully you can work this out easily now though!

justbuy it and make some music

Depends on the retailer…

Interesting !
Could you mention some retailers, who have a transferable, extended beyond the imposed legal two years warranty, which is not already covered by a manufacturer warranty, in Europe ?
Not trying to be smart here, genuinely interested !

Gear4music - if, and only if you get their extended 10 year warranty. costs extra. but that is transferable. their standard one isn’t tho.

If you pay more, that is indeed another story ! Kudos to them for offering that !

Yes, gear4music extended is transferable. Last time I sold from them the normal one was as well as I called them and got it transferred to the new owner. That is a few years ago though so might have changed.

However, some stores have transferable warranty that do not exceed the 2 years manufacturer warranty (music store professional for example if I remember correctly), this still makes quite a big difference to me. For example when shipping the device inside your country instead of to the manufacturer directly and it is also different to claim warranty issues with seller and manufacturer.

Others like Thomann, does not transfer the 2 year warranty (of the 3 year Thomann offers) and you will have to contact manufacturer directly, deal with their cmr service etc.

Some manufacturers have good service others do not, but if you have a seller with good service you get the same service for all manufacturers if you know what I mean. Even if the years covered are technically the same.

Two years is the minimal legal warranty for products sold in eu regardless of the owner. So that’s not something which should be mentionned, it’s just the minimal legal warranty.

Tbh I’m a bit tired of all the « 2.5 years warranty remaining from thomann » on used gear…This is just false claim.

As I said, Thomann does not transfer warranty whether that is 2 years left or 1 year left or whatever.

Sure, but as I said there are definitely individual differences in dealing with manufacturer or seller. Shipping fees being one of many. Personally I would very much prefer dealing with a seller than the cmr service of Waldorf or TE for example but you are entitled to your opinion of course:)

Option no. 2

Here are some ads in France, if you want to take a look:

Look into a capacitor issue on the Octatracks. There was an out-of-spec cap used on certain serial numbers from a few years ago. That would be my only potential concern with the cheaper, older item. It may not have been manufactured in that window, and Elektron seem to have taken care of any of the issues that have arisen, when asked, but it’s something to consider.
