well, Discource provides plugins to use OS models that can be self-hosted but I’m pretty sure that Elektron won’t be spending a lot on maintaining LLM just for Elektronauts.
so far it seems the Discource devs reassure that every AI flow is “user initiated” as in you type your comment and get a button like “read proof my text” or provide things like translations or whatever but they don’t mention the admin tools and other features that rely on user generated content that inevitably would be needed to shared with the LLM

Thats not ment to sound rude or something, but it is what it is. I can’t imagine how you want to avoid ai.
I’m pretty sure this is not a problem. It was actually a full disk that was the problem in this case.

seriously, that’s not the point, obviously everything is being scraped but the discourse is still human, and to me that’s important, I don’t want bot to read proof my or anyone else messages, I don’t want a bot to tell me I’m toxic or whatever, I just don’t want this place to be facebook 2.0 bots talking to bots

There’s no need to take a defeatist attitude. It is possible to resist, to limit one’s own exposure. I am not turning on AI options on my phone, for example. I think the forum has already discouraged people posting ChatGPT content, and presumably we can tone down any new Discourse features as much as possible.

Glad to hear that you engage in the future of the forum. I actually haven’t investigated this part of Discourse. We just aim to use the latest version out there and plan to do continuous updates as they get released. But if there is AI incorporated into certain workflows I can assure you that Elektron will be very cautious and only use this in a way that resonates with our community. We would never introduce something that seems intrusive. Furthermore, the discussions here will never be subject to any non-human interaction. If we find bots in the forum these will be banned and deleted.

We will be hosting with Communiteq which specialises in Discourse installations. They have great knowledge of the software and will be of great help when it comes to bugs etc.

I don’t want that to be told from a human nor a machine. I try to behave, sometimes its not easy.
Ever noticed? When you start to write a topic, this forum tells you there might be another thread with that too. I can imagine ai would help to find information too, even in the search box. I personally don’t think thats a bad thing. It would be a bad thing for me if ai starts to mimic a person without me noticing it. If its clear that it’s an ai that you interact with and if it’s helpful I don’t think that would be problem.
I know that people think differently than others about it.
Thats a point for me too. I even don’t have facebook on my phone. It can and will use your photos, data & co, no matter if an eu court says no. I’m pretty sure it listens to you all the time. Yes, conspiracy theory incoming.

discourse is OS, if I want to see how things work I can do that, and everything is scoped to the existing db, there’s no 3rd party involved. once you send your stuff to anywhere external you have no idea how and by who it’s used.
