Why is this forum down so often?

you’re missing the point, you provided an example of how discourse can tell you if there’s a similar topic when you start one, and that AI can help with that.
what I’m saying that while the result of providing list of similar topics is the same, the way it works behind the scenes is not, what current discourse app gives you is not relying on anything external, it’s just simple database query, if you want AI to provide similar result you’d have to submit list of topics to that LLM so it could give you a result back.
not the same thing, at all.
I don’t really expect you to show me anything, that’s not the point, you can’t, nobody can, and that’s the point…
the current state of Discourse is very transparent, the LLM stuff is not, and to me that’s important

It was a theoretical idea how you could use ai to get better results. Nothing more.
I wouldn’t mind if you dont hit me or something. Its not that important to me, so…
Have a nice day

Since there will be a lot of inherent changes with a new version of Discourse we should probably start a topic at that release date about the pros and cons of it and we can adapt based on user feedback. Thanks for all concerns.

Thanks for being so responsive @david, it’s good to know that things are in hand and being sorted.

I actually did stuff round the house yesterday, can’t have domestic expectations being raised, I’ll be putting shelves up left right and centre if this place goes down like that again.

It would be super dope if we could have the chat enabled. Some threads here are 80% chat (not talking about the obvious ones) and following or finding things is hard. Important stuff from the chat could also be channeled into a new forum thread so that it’s better preserved for people and search engines.

“Accept everything you dislike or disappear” is the least helpful (and mostly self-serving) nihilism.

There’s a lot I can’t control about the modern digital world, and I spend a lot of volunteer time helping others navigate these nightmares where social media companies or telcos have considered them an externality.

I refuse to accept that this is normal and necessarily “move on” even if I can’t often find great solutions. The very least people can do is ask that community sites let people opt out of whatever generative features and model-building.

Yes there are several different approaches to ML (that will not necessarily phone home or be resold), but that’s a more nuanced discussion and not needing to relitigate here either

Yes that feature would be great! To be clear. It doesn’t exist in the current version if I’m not wrong? 2.7 is the current

It would be great if the limits on post deletion could be upped significantly. As I look back on my post history, there is some good stuff that I’d like to keep around for the community, but a lot that is just noise.

I guess there is a reason this is limited. Changing history poses problems to the readability. But please give me valid reasons and we can reconsider.

I’m not very savvy with the versioning  But it’s part of the core plugins so you could have a look at the plugin admin panel as described in the link.

If you don’t think that deleting posts that add nothing to the discussion is a valid reason then :man_shrugging:t2:

It’s still a buggy mess ,constant problems with search and pages not opening….

I appreciate the motivation – for people coming in fresh to an old thread with a lot of posts, I think the “summarize” feature at least helps with that somewhat.

From the sounds of it, there’s a plan in place for taking control over hosting when whatever service is dropping the ball. I deal with managed services from time to time and the long length of time between spotting an outage, filing an external ticket and people actually acting can be infuriating.

There’s different infuriating aspects of managing it all yourself, of course…

I appreciate this forum even being up at all. When it goes down I just see as time to reflect on the work that goes into running this site…that’s my non-technical, artistic reply.

I had an app on my phone and tried reinstalling it while it was down and now I can’t find the app?

Stealth marketing for the next Autechre release. That’s a song title.

The day I decided to learn how to load waveforms onto the Monomachine from an M1 Mac (you can’t) was the day this forum went down.

For anyone else who has this issue, apparently you can’t use SoX + SysExLibrarian. You can only use C6. And C6 doesn’t work on any Mac after Catalina. But cool thing came as a result, I got to have some great discussion on the MnM Gang (Monomachine focused Discord)
