I’d love to hear some people talk about their favorite synths, devices or anything else used in Ableton. I just found a really cool VHS filter that’s fun as is the fractal filter. Both found on gun road. I’d love to see any other unique creations people have made as well.
Encoderaudio has a Turing Machine and a Rene sequencer that are nice to have in M4L.
10 euros each
I bought the turing machine over 5 years ago and they keep updating it in fun ways. They have a lot of other devices, cassette tape emulators, synths, fx, etc. But I really like their sequencers.
Fors.fm’s Doublet (@Ess) is awesome. Rack it up, add 16 Macros and you have almost 100% control over all of the synth’s parameters. It is my miniDigiTone.
There is a Rene clone that is great. I think it is called Snakes.
Edit: thanks to @PersianHugs for starting this thread. What a great idea. Going to tag @ignatius as I am sure he has a lot of good suggestions.
Just found out about Strange Mod by Dillon Bastan. I don’t realy use Bastan’s devices, even though they are quite impressive, but this one seems to be very much in my taste. The kind of stuff I will actually use in my music.
It’s a semi random generator based on chaos equations ( lorenz and such )
It leeds to very musical and fluid pseudo random signals. Predictible shapes but with unpredictible variations and evolution.
And it’s Free
And also I keep praising Kentaro’s work: Re-constructor: MI Clouds like device. Live granular with superb UI and a very digital and cold sound. Lovely lovely stuff
LFO Morph: Simple LFO with the same wavetable as the Cluster LFO
Anything Push2 related? Synth or sequencer?
With a good controller support, maybe Synth or sequencer?
For some reason not all M4L products are Push friendly…
This thread is a goldmine already! I adore Max For Live but find the disorganisation of plugins and lack of guidance on what is out there to be maddening.
My favourite third party Max for Live device is MDD_Snake. A simple René clone which fits so well into the Love ecosphere. MDD makes other great devices, such as MAUG and MARIONETTE.
Another favourite is Aicd by mganss. A simple and flexible acid pattern generator. Get your groove on!
There’s also RokVid by Adam Rokhsar which is a live video mangler which I highly recommend. I made some simple but effective music vids for Instagram with it and the results are really cool.
After a couple of years making music without a DAW, I just installed Ableton Lite and it’s loads of fun actually!
I thought I’d hate working in the box loads more. But it turns out that Ableton is a lot more fun / clear / quick / intuitive for me than GarageBand. Especially since I’ve managed to get Overbridge public beta running.
I thought that they’d sorta do the same, GB and Ableton, especcially only the Ableton Lite version. But I feel so much less lost already. With Overbridge running its so much fun recording quick loops, and how Ableton automatically switches to the loop and mutes the incoming audio on the arranger track. Mainly curious to go and use for a bit more detailed composing, instead of recording everything one-take live in stereo only, as I did up till now.
