Ist not that expensive at all (I bought mine for 520€). Build quality is exceptional and Sound is Dirty as f***** . The sound is kind of limited but you can get a good mileage out of it as a sound module played with a keyboard ( pro 1 reese bass, 101 like arps)
Just gonna leave this here, in case all this talk makes anyone thirsty…
This is my favorite bassline machine that’s not a 303 or clone. It’s a lot more flexible than you’d think by looking at it, or listening to most online demos. It can do chill, wretched, and everything between. IMO the price is VERY reasonable for build quality alone. We’re not talking little plastic silver box here. The cliche “built like a tank” applies 100% to this instrument. It’s absolutely beautiful. I was excited just taking it out of the box which is also Apple-level packaging. It makes a nice externally controlled monosynth too.
I have a DB-01 and I agree with most of what you say except for the flexible part. Despite my best efforts I can’t get anything chill out of it… probably my lack of skill though.
It can go pretty chill, but you have to drop the sub, the detune, the filter resonance and the drive to prett much zero and use the triangle wave. With gentle use of the LFO, you can tease some softer, almost ambient sounds out of it, but it’s not much fun with all the fun bits turned to zero.
When I say flexible, I’m speaking relatively (say to other simple / 303 esque machines)
I’m definitely able to get some softer, bouncy tones out of it. It does require a bit of care, as it is easy to just crank everything.
It’s a good thing you’re in the UK, because otherwise I know how this ends… with me buying a Fusion System.
Look at what you’ve done, @Fin25!
Hi y’all!
I sold the DN and am joining team DB-01!
Problem: bought it online second hand and I think it came with the wrong wall wart power supply. (Ór: it’s broken…)
Can someone check / tell me, it should come with a 12V DC supply right? Mine came with a supply labeled Output 9V Max 0.67A. That’s wrong, no? Or is it?
If I got the wrong adapter, what do I need? The DB-01/manual doesn’t state if I need barrel center positive or negative, can anyone tell me?
Thanks!!
Give me 2 minutes
Thanks @Fin25 !
I’m sure I’ll have something lying around.
Maybe even an Elektron supply, they’re 12v no?
Cheers!
This is amusing, because my earlier reaction to this thread was “For that much money, I could almost buy a Digitone!”.
And I understand the sentiment. But I’ve had the DN for a year and a half, loved it, still love it, but have thought about selling it for half a year on and off. Recently almost sold it but didn’t. And then I used it twice, stand-alone in bed, and that was it. That keeps happening, for some reason, I see its value but it never ends up in music besides itself as a groovebox. So it was time
I just bought both
Just to be sure: there’s no way to rotate/move the steps around in a sequence, with the DB-01, or is there?
It happens a lot that I find a nice sequence with the random generator, or even when I’m entering notes myself, but find out it starts on the 5fth step for example. Especcially when you only have a kick / hats running, it’s so easy to miss you’re not sequencing on the 1 beat.
No way around this? Copying 8-16 steps seems i lack the fingers for? I miss the Elektron function of FUNC+arrow…
Hope anyone has a trick!
Check Out the Videos from this Channel. If I’m not wrong he talks about it in one of his videos . https://youtu.be/TVT1LQzjjsQ
According to the manual, within a single page, you can copy a range (push and hold first step, push last step), and the first of DeHove’s tutorial videos (Essentials) has a section on it around 10:30.
