The problem with this is that you won’t be able to copy the whole sequence. For example you could copy step 5 to 16. But If you’d try copying Step 5 to 4, it’d copy just 4 to 5. (I’m now starting to doubt myself, with the “hold” first step, will try this eve!) Thanks for sharing, and I’ll check the video!
Couple of small questions, thanks.

Anyone try running this on a power pack?
-
I have a couple of other boxes that will generate CV (A4, Microfreak) but nothing so far that will accept it, so I am ignorant about this side of things. Is there anything useful I can do with the DB-01 through CV that I can’t do through MIDI? (Lacking any real modular gear.)
I’d still like an answer to the second question, but the answer to the first question is no, the DB-01 will not run on a power pack, at least not with the Birdcord that works with my Elektron devices. [Edit: yes, it will.] But, as hinted at by @lesstalkmoredisco above, an Elektron charger works fine, which is great, because I already have a couple plugged in at different spots.
Heya! Good to tag me, I hadn’t seen your question and am happy to help.
Second question I can’t answer really as of yet. Haven’t used db01 cv, didn’t even check what it can and cant. But can have a look if you don’t get any other answers re:cv.
Powerpack: I know that it runs on MyVolts usb-cables, you know them? > What’s the specs of the usb cable you tried?
Note that I haven’t tried an Elektron supply yet cause I found another one but I think the numbers add up and should work. (Oh i understand you already made it work! Sorry, trying to answer quickly here on my phone, which means I can’t read your message while I type:)
This is from the manual, about the CV / gates / clock ports. Handy if you have cv stuff and don’t have or want to use midi. But nothing that you can’t do via Midi (didn’t check the midi specs but I’m sure it does clock and pitched notes:)
It’s this Birdcord: Birdcord USB to 12V Converter Cable | Songbird FX
Edit: got it to work! I must have been doing something wrong before. Now all I need is a mono to stereo adapter so that I can use headphones. Right now I have to run it through two other devices to be able to hear it…
Anyone pairing the DB-01 with a Norand Mono?
I did once and I loved it!
With limited funds I had to pick between the two but given a year or so space between i’m tempted to try both as complementary.
Is there an easy way to latch a note in Keys mode? I can do it by cranking the VCA envelope all the way up and setting the sequence length to 1, but it’s awkward to change notes. Also, is there a use for the FM knob besides “go weird for a few seconds”?
The FM knob is tied to the LFO, so how it affects the VCO pitch will depend on what LFO settings you have. I recommend cranking the LFO up into audio rate and playing with the LFO and FM levels until you get what you want.
As for latching a note, I’m not sure what you mean. You can latch the arpeggiator by pressing the select knob, but the only way to get a steady note is to open the VCA right up or use a midi/CV controller and tape down a key.
By “latch” I just mean that I’d like to hold a drone note without having to hold down a key on the DB-01. I have a MIDI controller that can do this without tape or toothpicks but a standalone solution would be nice.
This is one of my favourite things about the DB-01. It gets so ridiculously dirty sounding so quickly!
The audio rate LFO stuff is indeed so good. But I agree with above that it quickly gets crazy. I can imagine I’d use it more for a small burst or for sampling fx noises. You can give regular pitched notes nice timbres with it though if you go for somewhat atonal nasty melodies. All this of course within my short experience only. I’m sure there’s more to discover.
Re drones: Don’t know how to latch. Maybe set the sequence length to one and open the gate full open? Probably doesn’t match with what you’re talking about for keyboard mode (which I don’t use). Arp one note with full open gate?
Arp with one note probably makes sense, one can re-latch after each note change.
It is even simpler than that. Just being in KEY mode (shift + play) and opening the VCA fully holds the note. I don’t know why I didn’t notice that before.
Back in the club.
Have one on the way. Begrudgingly sold my Rev2 due to tight space restrictions for the next… …while… needed something analog to inject into all the digital-ness of my setup.
I’ll get on recording some examples of “mellow” on it
Are there more people here who actually like the notch filter for bass?
Until now I never really used notch for bass on any other machine, mainly for thinner higher sounds. But I really like the notch on the DB-01 to make the bass cut through without filling the complete mix up. One of my favorite things in it actually.
Keith Emerson knife-latching is also an option.
