Los Angeles wildfires in Palisades/ Pasadena - are area Elektronauts okay?

I don’t know how many ‘nauts live on the west side of Los Angeles or the Pasadena area but I know we’ve got a handful in the general LA vicinity. My wife’s parents’ neighborhood burned last night. They are fine, fortunately, but the uncertainty of the condition of the house and strong possibility of losing her childhood home is bringing up a lot of understandable feelings. My heart goes out to everyone affected by this fire, it’s absolutely dreadful. No one should have to go through this. If any LA 'nauts need what little support we can provide here, feel free to post here or message me if you need. I’m not a therapist, but I’m willing to listen.

I hope everyone from elektronauts is safe and on the lesser scale of the impacted. Very sorry to hear about their home m0ld, I can only imagine how difficult it is for your wife to be trapped in a snowstorm while her parents’ home in another state falls victim to natural disaster.

Glad you’re safe too david. Genuinely hoping that there is a long enough break from the winds in So Cal to get things under control.

all good in the (holly)wood, so far. but first time in my 19 years living here that i felt the “flats” wouldn’t necessarily be safe during wildfire season

Safe but scared in Sherman Oaks. I’m praying for everyone in Los Angeles.

Thank you. Her parents thankfully made great insurance choices and are in what is probably one of the better positions they could be in given the circumstances, but the loss of sentimental items is weighing heavily on her. Like, her mom never replaced the ancient, chipped, stained tile hallway because it’s where she and her sister took their first steps. There’s a deep bond with that house. She’s resilient, as are her parents, but of course will need time to process and grieve like anyone else would. Ultimately it is just stuff, but the processing will take time. Still, we’re so so thankful they got out early enough. Reporting so far is zero fatalities (some injuries, mostly people who stayed behind), which given the scale and impact to homes, is incredible.

moms/pops on the south side of santa monica … the north side of santa monica got evacuated…
ready bags ready… I’m central coast during the week… pins and needles we shall see what we shall see… the fire is certainly afraid of my parents so hopefully there won’t be any problems… all they say is ‘this too shall pass’

sending all my beams up to scotty for the rest of ya’ll going through it!

Thanks for asking. I’m safe and sound with my new Digi2’s at our winter nest in SoFlo…

However, the view from my Nest in Hancock Park is nerve racking. Neighbors haven’t evacuated but some friends just West and North have. Heard there is now a death toll. Prayers for the safety of all. Be well friends.

We are safe. We could see the flames from the Sunset fire for a bit. Mostly dealing with smoke and ash from the Altadena fire. Housing a friend who evacuated.

For anyone dealing with smoke and ash - grab some N95 masks. A few years back, I bought some Black 3M Aura masks in Bangkok that were being sold as anti-pollution masks. A full face respirator with the appropriate cartridges is probably the ideal solution, but unless you regularly buy industrial PPE gear, it is probably much easier to get N95 or KN95 masks.

Update: in-laws’ house is a total loss. Not surprising, but still disappointing. About 1/3 of their neighborhood is standing with varying amounts of damage.

Memories are delicate and priceless. So sorry to hear of their loss. Relieved that they are safe, in good health and wish your wife peace and comfort.

Very sobering.

Safe and sound here, in mid city.

My business partner lost his house in the Palisades last night, completely leveled. Heart breaking.

The footage of devastation all the way up PCH beachfront, Palisades, Malibu, and Altadena is so surreal to see.
