Saw them live plenty of times back in Italy and once here in the UK…

Jello Biafra still uses that in his What Would Jello Do? youtube rants!

Punk remains in the late 70s to mid/late 80’s [for me]
THAT was the sound. New stuff is good, but it’s missing some of the vibe.

Absolutely true. To the first punk bands like Ramones, Johnny Thunders & The Heartbreakers, Dead Boys, Richard Hell & The Voidoids or The Dictators it was just ‘back to Rock N Roll’…

And then came McLaren, the rest is history…

Oh, its coming… Happening right now on a small scale, but it’ll blow up big time in a couple of months…

This ‘New Normal’ won’t suit all people. There’ll be reactions… The DIY aspect will flourish as there will be no ‘venues’ as such.

Its always been about doing what you want to do… and you’ll do it no matter what.

Power On!

Viva Acid House :fist:

Someone took Greenday seriously?

Sleaford Mods restored my faith in humanity, ‘punk is not dead!’ I cried, when I first heard them.

I reckon every one reaches a point where they look back at the past and think, everything ws better then. I know I do. There is still good stuff out there, its just harder to find. But that totally makes sense. Human population in 1980 4.5billion. Human population now, 7.8 billion.

Just sayin

Green Day always struck me as more of a boy band adopting punk as their gimmick.
Battling it out in the charts with 4NonBlondes, Alanis Morrissette and TLC.

great example. i distinctly remember an episode of yo mtv raps today featuring beasties where adrock had an mpc with him. he was like, the whole album was done on this. i recall the floppy disk.

Love the beasties - particularly that their talent caused them to, god forbid, get very popular.
Yet they still stayed cool and true.

Popularity can be the kiss of death for many bands that started out as indie-alt treasures, special to those who follow them.

I must be getting old, this just sounds like complete nonsense to me, like the sort of noises that come out when you first muck around with an octatrack

Sounds like a lost track from FSOL Dead Cities to me

Nice, yeah a serious talent for sure.

Anything that’s come out in the last 24 hours is new music for me :open_mouth:

That Giant Swan has HOOKED me! Like that.

note: very old here. :frowning:

As I’ve gotten older, I think a significant portion of the transition into “becoming old” is residence in pleasant familiarity rather than chasing new experiences.

There are equally good and bad arguments for each, but both are stages in life.

I’d rather listen to Music Has the Right to Children than whatever new Grimes album the kids are going on about.

Run off

I remember my friends were like “oh that Alvin and the Chipmunks move- you’d think it’s stupid, but it’s actually really good!”

That was the most devastating betrayal from society. I haven’t taken society’s opinion on things seriously ever since.

Thanks for making this the best 4th of July ever!

Really good topic - maybe keep away from the contentious politics moving forward

If i was a stick of rock i think it could say post-punk

Punk had a much missed authenticity and vitality and whilst much of the punk movement didn’t do it for me (as distinct to most post-punk or proto-punk) but it sure would be good if there was a fresh new shift in that authentic/vital direction - until then the minutemen will do very nicely

Keep it nice, @AdamJay had a truckload of flags when this veered off-topic
