Yeah, they know how to do a gatefold. I remember buying the vinyl of Paul’s when it came out and it’s that CinemaScope 4-panel fold out of the”store” in the east village. Epic. I got to have all three sign that gatefold when I met them at Tower Records in 89. Talk about a prized possession. I do love that gatefold you posted @DimensionsTomorrow too! AdRock’s guitar is awesome.
Hey guys! Some days ago, I played a SP404mk2 liveset at a showcase party done by a friend of mine who has a cool clothing line.
Basically, he asked me if I was interested in playing a liveset some days before the event, so it’s a bit of a hackjob thrown together in a hurry: tracks of mine old and new, mixed selecta style, with a bunch of foul-mouthed skits and dub fxs + SP fxs to keep it interesting.
Audience was limited and more interested by the clothes than the music, but the experience was neat as hell, can’t wait to do it again!
Écouter Shi live @ Virone Party / Hotel Dupond-Smith par Shi aka Le J sur #SoundCloud
haven’t listened to it all yet, but it looks good https://m.mixcloud.com/jimmy-green/here-come-the-rugged-ones-classic-uk-hip-hop-1990-1996/
Basically a role call of everything that’s made the 90s great for uk Hip Hop, thanks for posting fella, some great memories in there
Rushed a weird battle beat to make a deadline on sp forums when i got home from Disney with the kids. Sounds better on headphones haha
SP-303 + SP-404 MKII
sup all, i just finished my most recent beat tape, i did a write up on it over here in the EP-133 thread but I also wanted to share it here!
Glad to see this thread is still going strong. I used to be active in the beat battles and such 2 yrs ago, but I haven’t been around much lately. Hope everyone is doing well
Heya @PineappleDave good to see you back hope you’re well fella
Dope music @Sleepynumb and @schoolbabyboy!
And dope that youre back @PineappleDave, I wondered where you’d gone!
I haven’t owned anything Elektron in a while and ended up being highly active in some discord servers for beatmakers, but those have died down now, and I missed the vibes here. I’m super excited I can get in on the beat battle just in the nick of time
Came across this vid tonight. A lot of it isn’t new info to ppl already making hip-hop, but it makes some cool connections between jazz, Dilla, and more modern electronic music.
My new beats set up (MPC and Mixer added to the Zoom).
Going to use the Sampletrak for the initial sampling colour before getting it into the 1000.
Not sure has it been posted before, but I got a lot from this:
I knew about the Pultec trick in parallel to boost the bass in a sample and gating a sub to fill out the kick, but never realised how far engineers would take it. Bunch of other good stuff on this guy’s channel.
I have been staying at my mum’s since Friday to dog sit, and I brought my Sampletrak with the intention of hopefully making a mini beat tape. Unfortunely, it’s taken me until now to actually sit and use it, due to generally dealing with AuDHD burnout and just not having the energy.
This is the first thing I’ve done pretty much entirely in the machine (I gave the recording some Fabfilter EQ/Compression, and ran it through a setting I liked on AberrantDSP SketchCassette 2.
One of my favorite things about Japan is that it’s not a top 40 kind of a country. I have no idea what pop music is trending in the US these days but I was in a regular department store today and they were playing this. At first I was like “hell yeah, is the boom bap sound making a come back?” and then I realized it was Showbiz and AG. What a great tune.
