Transferring samples from ipad to Digitakt 2?

I was wondering how you guys get audio out of an ipad into Digitakt 2? Ideally I’d like to use some kind of sample transfer app so I can use my ipad as a field recorder. But I’m open to other workflow suggestions. Sampling the system audio off the ipad would also be handy if that’s possible.

I found this app so far

It says it’s compatible with Digitakt 1, I was wondering if anyone can confirm if it works with Digitakt 2 as well?

I think there has been discussion on here about this app before. If you search you should find it.

I don’t think it ever really worked and the developer disappeared and is not contactable

Thanks. I think I’ve seen that discussion but couldn’t find anything about DTII, I’ll have a look through the whole thing and see if it wasentioned.

Your DTII will also sample straight from USB, that’s what I do; record audio with my phone and then sample it over USB with DT.

Thanks. I was hoping an app was available but sounds like the USB sampling shouldn’t be too difficult.

May I ask how exactly you do this? As in what apps you use? Is there any way to sample system audio off of iOS (as in sample whatever is playing from any source)

Apps, music, video, etc. All audio can be sampled.

iOS has a screen recorder function that can be placed in the “command center” widget collection. The Koala sampler channel has tutorials on how to use it. It captures video and audio, but can be replayed and then deleted.

Thanks, does this require a specific app to do? Or does all the audio just travel through USB assuming the right output settings is selected on the ipad?

Thanks :)! I’ll give this a try.

Yes, it also just treats the DT like its speakers (for me, and I don’t remember ever changing any settings), audio automatically pipes through.

All over USB when connected to camera kit.

The built in screen recording that @Humanprogram mentioned works for most things, but some streaming services, mainly video, will disable it (Apple TV, Netflix, Prime Video).

Anything that is playing on the iPad will be heard through the DTII when sampling source is set to USB L/R. No setting needed on the iPad, just plug the USB in on the DTII and connect it to the iPad using the camera connection adapter. The DTII will then be able to monitor and sample anything playing on the iPad, YouTube, Netflix, audio from the voice memos, etc, ANYTHING. It’s so useful, I was just sampling steam engine trains that way from YouTube on my iPhone last night and turning them into rave stabs!

Thanks for confirming, that’s amazing :). This is ironically so much more hassle free than resampling iPad audio into an iPad daw

Is it conceivable that a great kit building/management app like SampleCrate could do bulk kit transfers to Digitakt 2 @alexbuga?

Hey. Thanks for the idea. I’m not sure how to use the Elektron protocol. I don’t think they allow you to transfer without their app.

It would be dope to use the iPad as a transfer tool.

Indeed. That would be a game changer for real. DigiHeadz would be all over any mobile transfer app and SampleCrate would be one of the best ways I imagine it could be implemented.

My ultimate fantasy would be to combine SampleCrate with Atlas 2 to create the ultimate mobile Digitakt Transfer tool for tablets and phones.

On my current list is fixing some sample chain issues, and then finish the audio editor.
There’s an audio editor in the current version, but it’s not accessible via the UI.
I wanna add a slicer, basically the opposite of sample chain, and some destructive operations like micro fades, etc.

Sounds tasty. Can’t wait! Drums are the backbone of what I do and kits are the backbone of that so SC is something I use almost daily. Always exploring how different drums, Percs and samples I record on my phone sound together.

Hi. You’re the creator of transfer:samples right?

There’s a (kind of) bug I noticed. When the samples get transferred to Digitakt 2 it doubles the length of the sample (inserting an equal length silence at the end of it). I’m on iOS 17 with a 4th gen 11 inch ipad pro. It’s not an app breaking thing or anything but it makes it more difficult syncing long recordings of music to the first beat of a pattern (since the resolution of the sample start position gets worse with longer samples)

Otherwise amazing app and I’m really happy it exists

Nope. I made SampleCrate
So there’s already an app for managing samples on Elektron devices? Hmm… consider me interested.
